PING had great success with its G30 and G drivers, each of which ranked among golf’s most forgiving drivers. But company engineers felt that there were still improvements that could be made, most notably in terms of ball speed and distance, which were the top priorities when it came to designing the new G400 driver. And there are multiple technologies utilized in the G400 that are creating more ball speed and distance for players. First, the G400 features a more streamlined design and at 445cc there is 15 percent less drag created on the downswing, which equates to increased clubhead speed. Its clubface also has undergone a forging process that makes it thinner and more flexible without any loss of strength. More specifically, the face is six percent thinner and 16 percent more flexible, a combination that gives golfers more ball speed from all impact locations. What’s most impressive, however, is that even with the more streamlined, compact design, the G400 is even more forgiving than its predecessors and can claim more than 9,000 MOI points. Fueling the high level of forgiveness is Dragonfly Technology, which enabled a lightweight crown and skirt that gave designers discretionary weight that was used to establish a low, deep CG position. Additionally, a strategically placed tungsten sole weight optimizes stability and launch conditions. Also different for the G400 when compared to the G30 and G will be its sound and feel, which was another top priority for PING engineers. The G400 utilizes a new internal rib structure to deliver acoustics and feel that are more muted and crisp than was found in previous models. As has been the case with recent PING driver releases, consumers will have three models to choose from. The G400 LST (Low Spin Technology) has been designed to reduce spin rates by as much as 300-400 RPM, which will make it a great option for high-spin players. It is available in lofts of 8.5 and 10 degrees and features a new stock shaft in the Alta CB, which is slightly counterbalanced to pair well with a heavier clubhead (208 grams) to maximize energy transfer at impact. PING does, however, offer additional aftermarket shaft options for players to choose from. All G400 drivers also feature a lightweight, adjustable hosel that offers five settings to adjust loft by +/- 1 degree, as well as the driver’s lie angle, to help players optimize ball flight. The stock length for the PING G400 LST driver is 45 3/4 inches and the swingweight is D4.

Ideal For:
Players of all ability levels who need help in lowering their spin rate to achieve optimal results with the driver. The tungsten weight utilized in the sole of the G400 LST has been positioned slightly more forward to create less spin and a slightly flatter trajectory, attributes often desired by high swing speed players. Players who don’t need spin reduction, however, should probably think about the standard G400, which would likely prove to be a better fit.
Faster Shape
The streamlined design along with bolder Turbulators and Vortec Technology creates less drag on the downswing to help players increase clubhead speed.
Dragonfly Technology
Enables a lightweight, ultra-thin crown and skirt, which allowed discretionary weight to be repositioned to achieve an optimal CG location and higher MOI.
Forged Face
A forging process to complete construction of the clubface creates a face that’s thinner and more flexible, which produces faster ball speeds from all impact points.
Tungsten Sole Weight
Strategically positioned tungsten in the sole improves stability at impact and promotes optimal launch conditions.
What They're Saying ...
“We’re coming off a couple of high-performing drivers in the G30 then the G driver that led the marketplace in mechanical horsepower. They’re super straight, really good launch conditions, and we worked really hard with the G400 to advance that even further. So it’s higher inertia, the CG is lower and deeper, and it goes faster through the air. But we also focused on the motivation to the player. The driver looks amazing in the playing position, a little sleeker shape, less lines, and the sound and feel of this driver is absolutely phenomenal.”
Marty Jertson, PING Director of Product Development
“We’re trying to make that fitting process simple with three fully optimized models. We have the SFT model, Straight Flight Technology. The tungsten weighting is in the heel. That helps it square up a little easier, and the swingweight is also a little bit lighter. The standard version, the tungsten weight is placed optimally low-back so we can max out the inertia and dynamic loft. And then we have the LS Tec where the tungsten weight is placed in front of the high density back weight. (That) moves the CG more forward and gets the spin down about 300-400 RPM for those that need that to optimize their trajectory.”

what is the difference between the soft regular vs regular? what would you reccomend for a 84 yr old golfer with an 19 index?
Asked by: JACK5525
Soft regular flex will be a little lighter and more flexible than the regular flex. It's better for slower swing speeds. If your driver swing speed is below 85 mph, soft regular may be the best choice.

what is the alta C B shaft? How does this differ then other shafts? Please give me as much info as possible. Don't know if this is something I should look into
Asked by: Chuck S
According to the shaft information under the description tab the Alta CB 55 shaft is a lighter weight. The torgue in all flexes would is considered mid. Also the launch in all the flexes is considered a mid-to-high. Rather than the Ping Tour 65 shaft where the torque and launch is different for each flex.

The soft regular shaft is lighter and more flexible, like PING's equivalent to a senior flex.

Which G400 driver would be better for an average golfer 10-12 handicap. I hit the ball fairly high with too much spin to get the roll I need for more distance?
Asked by: Keifer
If you're having trouble with too much spin, this Low Spin Technology driver might be the best option for you. We always recommend being fit for the correct model first.

I would like the Hzrdus yellow 65 shaft but can you get that in 5.5 instead of 6.0. The website only allows 6.0 option. Also can I get 3 wraps of tape instead of a specific sizing. For the G400 LST driver. Thanks
Asked by: Mike427
Unfortunately we can not order the 5.5 , In regards to the grips, you would need to place a custom order to have that done and custom orders could take 4-6 weeks.

played two nine hole rounds but noticed immediately noticed improvement in accuracy, shot dispersion. This driver found a place in my bag.

Ping Has Done It AgainTwo things I like. The reg flex shaft gives me the distance and trajectory I've been looking for and the slightly smaller head seems to work better for my swing.

great driverAfter getting fit and the place where I was fit did not have the club I ordered it from TGW. This club enabled me to gain 20 yards on my drive. I had a Titelist 917 D2 driver and the G400 goes a lot farther. It has a great sound too, not a loud clunk, but a nice click. The ridges on the top are slightly noticeable, but I try not to focus on them.
