Q & A

PING Men's G400 Driver

  • PING had great success with its G30 and G drivers, each of which ranked among golf’s most forgiving drivers. But company engineers felt that there were still improvements that could be made, most notably in terms of ball speed and distance, which were the top priorities when it came to designing the new G400 driver.
  • The G400 features a more streamlined design and at 445cc there is 15 percent less drag created on the downswing, which equates to increased clubhead speed.
  • The clubface also has undergone a forging process that makes it thinner and more flexible without any loss of strength. More specifically, the face is six percent thinner and 16 percent more flexible, a combination that gives golfers more ball speed from all impact locations.
  • Even with the more streamlined, compact design, the G400 is even more forgiving than its predecessors and can claim more than 9,000 MOI points.
  • Fueling the high level of forgiveness is Dragonfly Technology, which enabled a lightweight crown and skirt that gave designers discretionary weight that was used to establish a low, deep CG position.
  • A strategically placed tungsten sole weight optimizes stability and launch conditions.
  • Also different for the G400 when compared to the G30 and G will be its sound and feel, which was another top priority for PING engineers. The G400 utilizes a new internal rib structure to deliver acoustics and feel that are more muted and crisp than was found in previous models.
  • As has been the case with recent PING driver releases, consumers will have three models to choose from. The standard G400 will fit the widest array of players and is available in lofts of 9 and 10.5 degrees.
  • It features a new stock shaft in the Alta CB, which is slightly counterbalanced to pair well with a heavier clubhead (206 grams) to maximize energy transfer at impact. PING does, however, offer additional aftermarket shaft options for players to choose from.
  • All G400 drivers also feature a lightweight, adjustable hosel that offers five settings to adjust loft by +/- 1 degree, as well as the driver’s lie angle, to help players optimize ball flight. The stock length for the PING G400 driver is 45 3/4 inches and the swingweight is D3.
  • Includes headcover

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honesty can't believe it. I've used Titleist drivers for 10 years, last being the 915d2, I tried the g400 driver with stock stiff shaft, I couldn't get the timing right, tried it with the stiff tour version shaft, my swing speed went from 105mph average to 116mph, my bad shot, hook, was gone, this is not BS! My longest drive I've measured is 348, the least being around 280, 348 yards in recent conditions (warmest summer ever) My titleist probably went 290 max, 250 carry, but, even when I was driving what I thought was well, never did I manage those distances of 280 348 with the titleist, I also never had the accuracy I have now, I can now swing without trying to steer the shot, I still have my titleist irons, which I love, but I shall be trying ping irons when I feel their time is up, if you're interested in the Ping g400 driver, find a pro with a launch monitor, make sure you try different shafts, be patient, don't just try one shaft off the shelf, I've never felt so confident with a driver in my hand, try for yourself, you'll see the results for yourself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Longer AND straighter than my old faithful G15 I’m really pleased with the G400 driver (SFT) so far. It’s incredibly forgiving and consistent, with monster distance. I noticed toe hits start right but draw back to the line I aimed on. I’m very happy I bought this driver, my first driver since buying a G15 almost ten years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stable and forgiving, unlike my father. This G400 is great! I had the LST but just upgraded to the MAX. I find the max is much easier to hit, it practically strokes itself. The forgiveness on my misses are the most noticeable. All of my friends that have hit my club also love it! This is going to be a hard one to top going forward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ridiculously long and forgiving!! Best driver PING has engineered to date, I'm a 10 handicap and have played all the major brands. This is my third PING driver and this is by far the best out of the three. I'm amazed at the distance and forgiveness. Don't hesitate a second, buy it and see for yourself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Driver I bought my Ping G400 (9.5 degree loft, S-flex shaft) the new Taylormade and Callaway drivers. I added about 25-30 yards of carry distance with the G400. I didn't even get the fitting because I hit it so well. Normally, I've never liked how loud Ping drivers are when they're hit so I've never bought one. My first experience owning a Ping driver had been fantastic so far. A HUGE step up from my old Nike Vapor Pro driver.

Hi.can you explain the difference between the ALTA CB shaft and the Tour 65 Graphite. thanks Bob.

Asked by: scouser
The Tour 65 shaft is going to be a little bit heavier, a little less flexible, and provide a lower launch. This type of shaft fits better with faster swing speeds.
