Q & A

PING Men's G400 Driver

  • PING had great success with its G30 and G drivers, each of which ranked among golf’s most forgiving drivers. But company engineers felt that there were still improvements that could be made, most notably in terms of ball speed and distance, which were the top priorities when it came to designing the new G400 driver.
  • The G400 features a more streamlined design and at 445cc there is 15 percent less drag created on the downswing, which equates to increased clubhead speed.
  • The clubface also has undergone a forging process that makes it thinner and more flexible without any loss of strength. More specifically, the face is six percent thinner and 16 percent more flexible, a combination that gives golfers more ball speed from all impact locations.
  • Even with the more streamlined, compact design, the G400 is even more forgiving than its predecessors and can claim more than 9,000 MOI points.

  • Fueling the high level of forgiveness is Dragonfly Technology, which enabled a lightweight crown and skirt that gave designers discretionary weight that was used to establish a low, deep CG position.
  • A strategically placed tungsten sole weight optimizes stability and launch conditions.
  • Also different for the G400 when compared to the G30 and G will be its sound and feel, which was another top priority for PING engineers. The G400 utilizes a new internal rib structure to deliver acoustics and feel that are more muted and crisp than was found in previous models.
  • As has been the case with recent PING driver releases, consumers will have three models to choose from. The standard G400 will fit the widest array of players and is available in lofts of 9 and 10.5 degrees.
  • It features a new stock shaft in the Alta CB, which is slightly counterbalanced to pair well with a heavier clubhead (206 grams) to maximize energy transfer at impact. PING does, however, offer additional aftermarket shaft options for players to choose from.
  • All G400 drivers also feature a lightweight, adjustable hosel that offers five settings to adjust loft by +/- 1 degree, as well as the driver’s lie angle, to help players optimize ball flight. The stock length for the PING G400 driver is 45.75 inches and the swingweight is D3.
  • Please note that the Tour 65 Graphite shaft option is 45.25 inches in length.
  • Includes headcover

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hot Face! There’s no such thing as a mishit. The entire face is in play. But there’s great feel and sound upon impact. It looks great at address. Ping got it so right with this club.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good Driver I bought this driver a couple of weeks ago. I'm really happy with the purchase. I know that there is a ton of hype around the G400 max, but I opted for the standard G400. For me, it still a very forgiving club. Basically, as long as the face is square, it goes really straight; particularly, with a high toe miss. I tested against the G400 max and the G400 didn't fly as high and had a little less spin. It's also $100 cheaper. I feel that the Alta 55 shaft offers a higher ball flight. After playing with the shaft, I decided to move to into Evenflow Black shaft. That shaft dropped my flight and gave me a little more distance. My swing speed is about 105-110 mph and I'm hitting my driver about 260-270 yards thru the air. I think that if you normally hit your driver 225-235 yards in the air - the Alta 55 shaft would be fine. At any rate, I would highly recommend this driver to anyone in the market. I think that it is the best value on the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This has to be the easiest driver i have ever hit. Won this in our men's league windup last year then got the matching irons for Christmas. Irons are equally as easy and comfortable to hit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finding fairways again. Played with it 6 times. Missed just a couple fairways. The sr. flex shaft has really helped. Get more distance.

whats the difference from regular flex to soft flex?

Asked by: domino327
The soft regular flex is lighter and more flexible for slower swing speeds. It's PING's equivalent to a senior flex.
