PING Men's G400 Crossovers

Hybrid Performance Coupled With Long Iron Versatility

While hybrids have been a huge hit with many golfers, there are still those who just don’t fare well with them. Many of those players have instead turned to utility clubs, which have become increasingly popular in recent years. And when it comes to performance, the new G400 Crossover from PING is one of the game’s most impressive utility options and a club that has undergone some dramatic changes from the original G Crossover. Most notably, players will notice a new color scheme and a thinner, more compact profile. Included in the new design is iron-like gearing, which utilizes a more forward CG placement to create 45 percent less shot bend and 40 percent more spin, a combination that provides workability and more consistent results. Also thinner is the G400’s sole, which improves turf interaction from any lie to deliver better results on poor strikes, and a new Maraging Steel clubface utilizes lightweight, strong C300 steel to increase ball speed and launch conditions. Additionally, tungsten weight has been positioned in the toe to increase MOI, and the new Hydropearl chrome finish provides an elegant look and 40 percent less friction, which improves consistency in wet conditions or from poor lies in the rough. G400 Crossovers are available in lofts of 19, 22, and 25 degrees, and they feature the new Alta CB 70 as a stock shaft.

Ideal For:

Players of all ability levels who are looking for an alternative other than a hybrid or more lofted fairway wood as a long iron replacement. The G400 Crossover will offer players the same type of launch conditions and distance that most hybrids will but with the added workability that would be found in a long iron. The straighter face might not appeal to everyone, but for those who want to be able to shape shots more easily and enjoy more consistency and control in terms of distance, the G400 Crossover is definitely worth a look.

PING G400 Crossover Product Video

PING’s Marty Jertson speaks with TGW about the new G400 Crossover.

Maraging Steel Face

Strong, flexible C300 steel utilized in the face design produces more ball speed, and the increased flexing of the face creates higher launch conditions.

Tungsten Toe Weight

Twenty grams of tungsten weight positioned in the toe helps raise MOI for enhanced forgiveness on mis-hits.

Thinner, Hybrid-Style Sole

New sole shaping promotes improved turf interaction from all different lie conditions for better results on poor strikes.

What They're Saying ...

“Hybrids are serving their purpose in the marketplace, but some players just, for whatever reason, don’t get along with hybrids. If they’re looking for a club to give them more distance control precision like an iron but they can’t hit their long irons high enough with enough ball speed, the Crossover is the club for them. It merges the distance control and accuracy of an iron with the ball speed and distance of a hybrid combined.”

Marty Jertson, PING Director of Product Development

“While making (the G400 Crossover) thinner, we didn't want to sacrifice on the forgiveness and the accuracy. In fact, this club goes a lot straighter than its predecessor, and one of the ways we’ve done that is through 20 grams of tungsten weight in the low toe. This allowed us to, while thinning the club, still keep the inertia very, very high.”

Marty Jertson, PING Director of Product Development

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Hit "Iron" I have the 3 crossover. It is easy to Hit and you will feel better hitting a long club that looks like an iron instead of a hybrid that looks like a wood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoying golf again I purchased the #3 Crossover 2 months ago. After I hit approximately 25 balls at the range, I was comfortable with a setup that produced a medium to high flight with acceptable distance. I used it on the course and loved it. In fact, I purchased the #4 crossover and immediately was hitting straight, high shots from the fairway. They are in the bag to stay. Downside: Pricey, but worth the investment to improve the enjoyment of playing golf again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good feel and forgiving I received my custom fitted club (#4/22) 2 days days ago and found it very forgiving and high launching. I would think that this will serve as a good "rescue" club at the fairway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Interesting Hybrid Alternative The high ball speed and flight of a hybrid with the control of an iron. The flat face and toe heavy weighting make this club a godsend for players who fight a hook with a traditional hybrid.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 4 Crossover I made a big mistake buying this club. I've tried it more than just a few times. Then dissatisfied I take it out of my bag and it just lays. It's really a piece of junk created by Ping just to make people mad. Every stroke you make feels like a toed 4 iron made about 50 years ago.
