Q & A
The Mizuno JPX 900 is a unique offering in the players iron category. From a look, feel, and control standpoint, there’s no mistaking that this is true players iron. That said, what the JPX 900 delivers from a distance and forgiveness standpoint rivals some of the best game-improvement irons on the market. One of the main reasons that these irons produce such explosive distance is the use of Boron in their forged construction. Boron is 30 percent stronger than the traditional Carbon Steel used in most forged irons, enabling a thinner clubface in strategic locations for faster ball speeds across the face. In terms of forgiveness, engineers have moved 21 grams of weight from the pocket cavity to the extreme perimeter of the clubhead to increase MOI and enhance stability on mis-hits. In addition to those performance attributes, golfers can still expect incredibly soft feel and exceptional acoustics at impact, as well as irons that make it easy to work the ball both in terms of trajectory and ball flight. The stock shaft for the JPX 900 Forged irons is the Project X LZ 5.0, but additional custom options are available at no upcharge as well.

Low- and mid-handicap golfers who value distance and forgiveness along with the other common attributes associated with players irons. The use of Boron in the design of the JPX 900 Forged irons helps deliver explosive ball speeds for what amounts to uncommon distance from a forged iron. But as a forged iron, the JPX 900 Forged still delivers exceptional feel and acoustics. All said, given how they look, how they feel, and how they perform, this is without question a true players club that will fit a broad range of golfers.
Multi-thickness incorporated into the design of the clubface optimizes ball speed on center strikes and preserves ball speed from other impact points.
More than 20 grams of weight were redistributed to the perimeter of the clubhead for enhanced stability and higher MOI.
The use of stronger Boron in the design creates a thinner, faster clubface, but forged construction maintains a soft, solid feel.
“I loved the Forged. The feel was there, the workability was there, the forgiveness was there.”

“It was slightly bigger to look down at (than the Tour model), not hardly at all, which is great. The feel there was maybe slightly better. When it was coming off the face, I couldn’t feel it much in my hands, which I liked. It was a soft face but (the ball) came off hot.”
