Q & A

Titleist Men's 718 AP1 Irons

Overview

  • When it comes to irons, while Titleist has built its reputation on players irons, the company’s one true game-improvement offering, the AP1, has been its best-selling iron for the last several years.
  • Brand new from Titleist are the 718 AP1 irons, which should again prove to be a huge success, as they’re offering golfers even more distance and forgiveness than their predecessors.
  • Fueling that performance is a progressive set construction, as the 4- and 5-iron are now fully hollow, which enabled engineers to move weight to the perimeter to enhance forgiveness while also creating a low, deep CG positions for higher launch and more impact stability.
  • The use of more than 55 grams of tungsten in the toe of the long and mid irons is further helping to increase both launch and MOI.
  • A thinner clubface construction and the use of stainless steel face inserts are creating faster ball speeds from all impact locations, which is leading to distance gains of between three and six yards throughout the set.
  • The 718 AP1 irons are being offered with stock shaft options in both steel and graphite, with the True Temper AMT Red being the steel option and the Mitsubishi Tensei Red being the graphite option. Titleist does, however, have multiple no upcharge aftermarket shafts for players who are in need of a different profile to choose from.
Progressive Set construction

Progressive Set Construction

Traditional cavity construction in the mid and short irons and hollow body construction in the long irons promotes optimal performance with each club through the set.

Tungsten Weighting

Tungsten Weighting

High-density tungsten positioned in the toe of the long and mid irons creates higher launch conditions and improves MOI for more consistent results on mis-hits.

Thin unsupported clubface

Thin, Unsupported Clubface

Ultra-thin face construction coupled with stainless steel face inserts create more ball speed from all impact locations to maximize distance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Clubs! I have only played 2 rounds with these clubs. So far I can see a difference in the reduction of mis-hits; much more forgiving than the Ping G15 clubs that I played previously. I did gain 10 to 15 yards per club but in all fairness to Ping, those G15 were knockoffs. Very satisfied with the AP1 clubs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty with Performance I am already loyal to Titleist AP1 irons so I just got some new ones to replace my old ones. Still love them and they look so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pure hitting irons I used to play Titleist 716 AP2 irons and realized that they were a bit out of my league (I am a 10-12 handicap). Once I switched to these new 718 AP1's, my game improved with much more solid, pure strikes. They don't feel as soft as the AP2's, but very close. I gained more distance and much better accuracy. And, they are a beautiful design! I really like these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely AWESOME! I bought these shortly after Christmas. I ordered them through the "Customize" selections. Irons are fantastic, TGW delivered as promised (3 weeks) with no complications. I am a 10 handicap, I've hit them a few times in the simulator and they are AWESOME! I look forward to some great golf and more purchases with TGW. Thank you to everyone involved!

how will i know if i need a regular or stiff shaft

Asked by: svh203
We always recommend being fit for the proper flex so you can have your swing analyzed, swing speed measured, etc. Regular flex will generally work for anyone with a swing speed less than 80 mph.

How does AP1 compare with AP3?

Asked by: Bob S
AP1 irons are more game improvement irons. They feature all the distance and forgiveness technology TItleist puts into an iron. AP3 is a bit of an in-between iron. They have some distance and forgiveness but feature a smaller profile and more workability than the AP1.

What does ' low balance ' shaft mean ?

Asked by: Scooba
This means the shaft as a lower balance point. What this does is lower the torque of the shaft to make a lighter club while also making it more stable.
