Q & A

Titleist Men's AP2 Black Irons

  • For Titleist, the AP2 franchise has been a monumental success for the last several years. Not only has AP2 been the No. 1 iron on the PGA Tour in recent years but it has also garnered a cult following among recreational golfers with handicaps ranging from scratch all the way to the mid-teens.
  • When it comes to the 718 AP2, Titleist believes it has created an iron that stays true to what loyal AP2 players have come to know and love but in a package that will deliver distance gains, improved feel, and more forgiveness and stability.
  • In terms of added distance, it is most evident in the long and mid irons, as a new, high-strength face material, SUP10, is enabling a thinner club face that creates more ball speed.
  • An increased amount of tungsten weighting used in the heel and toe of the long and mid irons creates enhanced perimeter weighting for improved performance and consistency on mis-hits, as well as a lower CG position for higher launch conditions.
  • The short irons have a more traditional cavity construction that been implemented for maximum control to help players execute from a trajectory or ball flight standpoint on scoring shots.
  • The new combination of materials used in creating the 718 AP2s, along with their forging process, provides a softer feel and sound at impact than what their predecessors offered.

  • Co-forged construction
  • Tungsten weighting
  • High-strength SUP10 steel
  • Sleek all-black construction for a unique look on the course
Co-Forged Construction

Co-Forged Construction

Enables a thinner club face that creates more ball speed from all impact locations, with the result being distance increases through the set.

Tungsten Weighting

Tungsten Weighting

An average of more than 50 grams of high-density tungsten positioned in the heel and toe of the long and mid irons creates more forgiveness on mis-hits and increased stability at impact.

High-Strength SUP10 Steel

High-Strength SUP10 Steel

Stronger and more flexible than 1025 carbon steel or 17-4 stainless steel, the SUP10 that’s used in constructing the body and face of the longer irons enables a lower CG position that promotes faster ball speeds and higher launch conditions.
