Q & A

Titleist Men's 917 F3 Fairways

Fairway Woods Made For Versatility And Control From Titleist

Titleist fairway wood users will notice a name change when it comes to the 917 fairway woods. The company will no longer use F and Fd to differentiate between models, choosing instead to brand its 917 options as F2 and F3 to better align with what consumers have come to expect from Titleist’s driver lineup. In the case of the 917 F3 fairways, they have a smaller, more compact overall footprint than their F3 stablemates, which allows for enhanced workability. The F3 also has a deeper face and will launch lower and spin less than the F2, making it a great choice for players who utilize a 3-wood from the tee on a regular basis. From a technological standpoint, 917 F3 users will see many of the innovations that have been incorporated into the 917 driver, most notably SureFit CG, which is a weight that can be positioned in the clubhead to change the center of gravity and help produce a player’s optimal ball flight. Additionally, the SureFit hosel system allows for independent loft and lie adjustment to further achieve desired ball flight and trajectory, while the club’s Active Recoil Channel has been filled with elastomer to increase ball speeds and reduce spin rates. And finally, a Variable Thickness Face Insert has been incorporated into the design to maintain faster ball speeds on mis-hits. The 917 F3 is available in lofts of 13.5 and 15 degrees. Diamana Blue and Diamana White, which have been popular fixtures in the Titleist shaft lineup for years, are being offered in the 917 fairway woods, but there are additional stock options as well with the Aldila Rogue Max and Fujikura Speeder Pro TS 84 also available. Other custom shaft options are being offered as well for players in need of a different shaft profile.

Ideal For:

Players of all ability levels who place a premium on workability in a 3-wood and who often utilize a 3-wood from the tee. The smaller profile of the clubhead and its deeper face make the 917 F3 easier to shape shots with, while its reduced spin rates produce more distance from the tee as players can expect a extra yards of rollout. And while the F3 might not be quite as forgiving as its F2 stablemate, it still provides exceptional ball speeds from impact points across the face. That said, for the player who needs to maximize carry distance and who needs help launching the ball more easily from the turf, the 917 F3 might prove to be a better option.

SureFit CG System

The new SureFit CG system is positioned to allow the Center of Gravity to be moved without affecting forgiveness. SureFit CG interchangeable weights optimize spin and launch for every player with more consistent impact and spin, enhanced shot shape, weight savings and swingweight adjustability.

What They're Saying...

“We’re really excited about the 917 fairways. It’s a big leap for us in technology, the ability to not only create faster ball speeds but have the ability to really adjust the fairway (wood) to your swing.”

Josh Talge, Vice President of Marketing for Titleist Golf Clubs

“When you combine SureFit CG along with our SureFit hosel system, we’re able to really help you get that ball on the line that you want. We can take misses out of play for you, and really deliver the type of performance that you’re going to enjoy.”

Josh Talge, Vice President of Marketing for Titleist Golf Clubs

“We’ve seen ball speed increases at a minimum of one mile an hour; we’ve seen as high as five. You’re going to see more ball speed come off the face. We’re seeing launches go up because that center of gravity has gone down.”

Glenn Mahler, Titleist Performance Institute Fitting Supervisor

“As you get into the F3, this is a player who’s probably going to hit it off the tee 50 percent of the time, so we gave them a deeper face. We gave them the ability to really kind of work the ball a little bit more than (with) the F2. It’s going to be a couple of hundred RPM less spin.”

Josh Talge, Vice President of Marketing for Titleist Golf Clubs

Titleist Men's 917 F3 Fairways Diamana D+ Limited 80 3 Stiff Right 15.0 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Titleist Club! Had the 915Fd and liked the club, this 917 out does the 915 though. The active recoil channel cover is a major improvement. Nothing bugged me more than getting dirt, grass and junk trapped in the 915 active recoil channel. Versatility in the sure fit cg and hosel adjustments are extremely friendly and a nice feature..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High velocity, low launch I bought this a month ago and have used three times. It has solid shot making and has a low spin, high velocity launch. Perfect for players who look for a consistent alternative to the driver. Need to remember that this isn't super forgiving (unlikely the F2). Really aimed at shot making and consistency in approach.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The 917 F3 is the best. Replaced my 910 fairway with the 917 F3. Ball explodes off the face from the tee or even tight lies. And the adjustable weight finally helps to easily draw or fade the ball.

Is it possible to order this club left-handed with 13.5 degrees of loft?

Asked by: MikeH22
We do not have any in stock, however, if you click the "enter customer specs" tab on the product page right above the picture of the driver, you may customize the club with the desired dexterity and loft. Custom clubs can take 3-4 weeks in production.

Is this a good club and shaft for an 18 handicap?

Asked by: Mike2939
Higher handicap players may prefer the F2 fairway, it's made to be a bit more forgiving than the F3. https://www.tgw.com/titleist-mens-917-f2-fairways
