TaylorMade 2016 Tour Preferred X Golf Balls

TaylorMade 2016 Tour Preferred X Golf Balls

TaylorMade's Most Controlled Tour Ball

TaylorMade went through more than 40 different prototypes of the redesigned Tour Preferred X golf ball before it felt comfortable having its players test the new ball on Tour. The goal was to deliver what the players had asked for in terms of performance, that being low spin off the driver and on full shots with irons but maximum spin around the green and with wedges. It appears as if TaylorMade hit a homerun, as the X has been a huge success on Tour, with the likes of Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, and Sergio Garcia, among several others, now playing the ball. In terms of performance, the cast urethane cover on the X is now slightly thicker for more greenside control, and the ball’s five-layer construction delivers lower spin with the driver and irons. With a compression of 87, players can expect a ball that feels firmer than the Tour Preferred, and they can also expect less spin and lower launch conditions on full iron shots with the X compared to its stablemate.

Ideal For:

Golfers of all ability levels who are looking for tour-proven performance in a golf ball. The Tour Preferred X is the only five-layer golf ball being played on Tour, and it delivers low spin on all full shots and amazing spin and control around the greens. It will feel noticeably firmer than the Tour Preferred ball, which will likely appeal to players with faster swing speeds. That said, high swing speed isn’t a prerequisite for playing the X. Additionally, players can expect less spin and a flatter trajectory on iron shots. Those who wish to hit the ball higher and spin the ball more with their irons should consider the Tour Preferred as an alternative.

Soft Tech Cast Urethane Cover

LDP 322 Dimple Pattern

Helps produce more distance off the tee with a penetrating ball flight while also delivering more stability in windy conditions with all clubs.

What They're Saying...

“These balls are really for serious golfers, and we like to make a distinction between serious golfers and low-handicap golfers. These balls have to be good enough for the No. 1 and No. 2 golfers in the world, but they’re not just for scratch golfers.”

Charlie Crisan, TaylorMade Product Manager for Golf Balls and Metal Woods

“Both of these golf balls are very long and both of these balls around the green spin very high. We would say that iron flight and iron spin with the X is low, and the Tour Preferred would be mid iron spin and mid iron flight. But in terms of distance and spin around the green, they perform very similarly.”
