PING Men's G400 Irons

More Distance, Higher Launch

Through the years, G-series irons from PING have garnered a reputation for giving golfers incredible playability and impressive forgiveness, and that’s something that will not be changing with the new G400 irons. In fact, the new G400 irons are arguably the most player friendly G-series irons that PING has ever created, which is lofty praise. Most notably, these are irons that offer incredible distance and launch conditions while still delivering the spin rates that players need to stop the ball on the green. The stock shaft options for the G400 irons are the AWT 2.0 steel or the lightweight Alta CB graphite. PING, however, is offering several popular aftermarket shafts at no upcharge to fit the needs of players who need a different shaft profile.

Features:

  • PING’s COR-Eye Technology and a new Toprail Undercut Cavity work in unison to help the clubface flex more at impact for increased ball speed and higher launch.
  • Made with Hyper 17-4 Stainless Steel, the G400’s clubface is 40 percent thinner when compared to the G iron, which also contributes to ball speed increases.
  • A concealed Custom Tuning Port has been implemented into the design to increase perimeter weighting for enhanced forgiveness, while a full cavity badge produces improved acoustics and feel at impact.
  • The G400’s Hydropearl chrome finish offers elegant aesthetics and provides 40 percent less friction to deliver more consistent results in wet conditions or from difficult lies in the rough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love These Irons Got the 7 - PW and U wedge. Love these clubs. They have a comfortable feel and are very forgiving. Had not had a U wedge before, and I think it may become my new favorite club.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pibg G400 Custom Irons TGW made it easy for me to get exactly what I wanted. Initially wasn't sure what to do, so I sent and email to service, and received a response with the info I needed. Again as always pricing and service were 5star.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Marketing hype, course failure, no feel I have used Ping products since the 1-A putter. There is a 1960's Kushin in my bag plus an Eye 2+ sand wedge right now. The apex of the G series was the G25, quite possibly the best game improvement iron ever made. Things declined in feel and performance with the G30, and the G model came back toward the G25. More distance, but way less consistency and feel. However, I even called Ping about the woeful performance (accuracy, sound, ballooning) and feel of the G400. I thought maybe the flex faces were broken, and the lie/loft/swingweight of the clubs when they arrived with were way off. (So much for a quality fitting by one of America's top 100 fitters. His screw-together test irons were better than the Ping custom product!) Quality control was just awful. Basically Ping has gone to a mass merchandizing model and churning out new models as fast as they think they can sell to a gullible public.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flight It High Got the G400 SFT Driver first, and then got the G400 Irons a few weeks later. I'm in my mid 50"s and playing again like I did in my 20's. Hitting the Driver 270 and launching the irons better than any set I've ever hit. I was concerned about the reviews saying the irons did not wear well. But after 25 rounds and at least 50 range sessions, the irons still look like new.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A little dissapointed Bought these clubs online and whilst they work well, good distance, accurate etc. the hydropearl chrome finish rubbed off on a few clubs after just one round which was really dissapointing especially for a premium brand (and price tag).

What is the flex spectrum for the Project X shafts? In the numerical range, which is the stiffer shaft?

Asked by: 11th Tee
The higher the number, the stiffer the shaft. For the Project X: 6.5 would be the stiffest, the 6, then 5.5, then 5.

I am looking to purchase your G400 series irons. I am 69 years old and have a swing speed in middle 90's which will go down with age (I was over 100)  Should I go with the Alta CB a graphite shaft?

Asked by: ken48
That sounds like the right fit. If you receive the club and it is not the right fit, this club does have a 30 day playability option.
