Q & A

PING Men's G400 Irons

More Distance, Higher Launch

Through the years, G-series irons from PING have garnered a reputation for giving golfers incredible playability and impressive forgiveness, and that’s something that will not be changing with the new G400 irons. In fact, the new G400 irons are arguably the most player friendly G-series irons that PING has ever created, which is lofty praise. Most notably, these are irons that offer incredible distance and launch conditions while still delivering the spin rates that players need to stop the ball on the green. The stock shaft options for the G400 irons are the AWT 2.0 steel or the lightweight Alta CB graphite. PING, however, is offering several popular aftermarket shafts at no upcharge to fit the needs of players who need a different shaft profile.

  • PING’s COR-Eye Technology and a new Toprail Undercut Cavity work in unison to help the clubface flex more at impact for increased ball speed and higher launch.
  • Made with Hyper 17-4 Stainless Steel, the G400’s clubface is 40 percent thinner when compared to the G iron, which also contributes to ball speed increases.
  • A concealed Custom Tuning Port has been implemented into the design to increase perimeter weighting for enhanced forgiveness, while a full cavity badge produces improved acoustics and feel at impact.
  • The G400’s Hydropearl chrome finish offers elegant aesthetics and provides 40 percent less friction to deliver more consistent results in wet conditions or from difficult lies in the rough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from game improving to golf satisfaction I bought these clubs about three months ago took little time to get the feel but after a few games started to really enjoy the choice. They have rekindled my love of golf and the best thing was getting an ace on my home track love my G 400s. So if any one is thinking about trying these clubs don't hesitate

Rated 5 out of 5 by from distance and accuracy Started playing again after 10 yrs off. Bought G400 4-U. Took 3 months to get used to distance. Now that I understand how to use the clubs I have picked up another 3-5 yds over the 8-10 initially. Learned how to hit low draws, fades by choking down 1/2-1" and moving ball in stance. Love the ability to keep ball low and hit almost as far as full swing. Love distance when hitting ball thin. Makes me look like a golf genius. G400's make a golfer look better than they actually may be. Still learning abilities with these clubs to hit variety of shots. Love the 4 iron. Like the look and wt.' It takes work to make use of wide variety of shots these clubs will allow you to make. Still working on u wedge

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Demo'd them, loved them, bought them Just started golfing July of 2018. Have an old set of King Cobra oversized that I was using and getting by with. The pro at our CC let me demo the G400 irons 4-UW and I never gave them back! The ball jumps off the face and does travel noticeably higher. Obviously I don't know any better, but for someone who has just started, they sure made my game even more fun and have certainly lowered my scores from earlier this summer. I'm getting the feel of these irons having played 42 rounds between 8/25/18 and 10/28/18. It's been a pretty good fall if you ask me. As for the finish, it does not bother me one bit. They are still great looking clubs. I simply wipe them off with a damp cloth after each hit. I simply love them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them Bought my first set of ping eye 2 irons in 1984. Had 1 thru lob wedge in green dot. After 30 some years of the same clubs. Felt I deserved a new set. Tried many sets of irons. After hitting the g400’s just turned and smiled. That was it I was in love again. Don’t tell my wife. Had a set made by ping. Being 6’5” i’m not a standard off the shelf person. The new set came mid way thru the 2017 season. It has taken a while to get the distance down. They are way longer than my old irons. And after a season and a half of playing them. Still in love. Thanks Ping

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the feeling of power and control! The unmistakable feeling of power at impact was instant, right from the first trial at the range was great. I am so pleased to go back to Ping after years in the wilderness!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very forgiving. One club longer than previous set Haven’t played in several years. Invested in new technology after a fitting at a local driving range. Watched several online review videos and clubs really lived up to review. Increase distance even on mis-hits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ping G400 irons Beautiful clubs, extremely forgiving, for me I found each club played a bit more forward than my previous ping clubs. Love them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Balls seem to explode off the face Just got back into golf after 8yrs. Always wanted a set of pings so i pulled the trigger and bought these g400's. I thought that being 53 now i would'nt be hitting the ball as far. Wrong, the ball just explodes off these clubs. I am hitting the ball farther than i ever have. The weighting in the clubs feel great. They are the most forgiving clubs i have ever hit. I see some reviews talking about the finish scratching easy. I've played over 20 rds. With mine and they still look like the day i bought them. All i use is a wet towel on course after each shot and when i get home i use a tooth pick to clean whats left in the grooves. I seriously doubt if i will ever have to buy another set of clubs in my lifetime.

What is the difference between the steel shafts with cushin and without? Besides $5 upcharge.

Asked by: Joe213

What is the difference in Lie angle?

Asked by: james1234
Ping irons can be custom fit to different color codes (lie angles) to fit golfers of varying sizes, swing tendencies and ball-flight preference. There are 12 different color codes ranging from Maroon (extremely upright) to gold (extremely flat). We would recommend contacting a local Ping authorized club fitter or use the "Fitting Guide" tab listed at the top of the page, just above the image, to help determine the lie angle which will best suit your game.
