NIKE Men's TW 17 Golf Shoes with TGW

TGW’s Diego Garcia breaks down all of the many features of the new NIKE TW 17 golf shoes.

NIKE Mens TW 17 Golf Shoes

NIKE TW 17 Golf Shoes: NIKE and Tiger Woods have teamed up once again for another signature golf shoe. And the 2017 version of the NIKE TW golf shoes is unlike anything they’ve produced before. From the way it looks to the way it fits and the way it grips, these shoes bring something new to the game. This is the TGW hands-on review of the new NIKE TW ‘17 golf shoes.

The brand new design was evident as soon as we unboxed these shoes. There’s no traditional lacing system here. In its place is a unique dual-strap Velcro closure and pull cord to tighten the shoes. The lateral strap even features exposed NIKE Flywire cables that adapt to your foot as it moves for dynamic support. This whole system makes the shoe easy to slip on and off without tying laces. It loosens up quickly and easily so your foot slides right in. Then you cinch up the pull cord beneath the straps for a custom fit. Set it to however tight or loose you prefer your golf shoes. The straps then close over the tongue for an incredibly stable and supportive fit.

The uppers are made with a synthetic leather that keeps the shoes lightweight while offering durable protection. They feel great to the hand and even better when you put them on. This synthetic construction is also flexible for dynamic performance on all terrain. It’s also waterproof and comes with a two-year warranty so you’ll reach for these shoes every round, no matter what the weather looks like.

We tried on a size 11.5 medium and noted a true-to-size fit. The TW 17 shoe even looks a little bit wider than what you might be used to with NIKE and it fits great. The length and width are perfect. Even if they feel a little snug at first, the synthetic material in the upper loosens up quickly with a little walking around so they break in in no time. These shoes did slip a little in the heel however, but there is padding around the ankle and you may want to keep that in mind when choosing socks.

The comfort and quality underfoot is top notch in the TW 17 golf shoes. A soft Phylon foam mid-sole provides cushioning with every step while helping keep the shoe lightweight. NIKE has also included their classic Zoom Air unit in the heel. It feels springy under your foot and responds to each step for ideal cushioning. If you’re a golfer that prefers to walk the course, you’ll love this feature.

Finally, the new Tiger Woods shoe features a high-performance outsole. NIKE starts with a carbon fiber composite sole plate. This material aids in the transfer of power throughout the golf swing, propelling your game forward and allowing you to swing confidently, every single time. TPU is then laid over that sole plate with an aggressive traction pattern that grips all kinds of turf. There’s also seven replaceable spikes for even greater traction and stability. These shoes use Champ Zarma Tour golf spikes with the Tri-Lok system.

The final verdict: NIKE’s TW ‘17 golf shoes are a winner. This shoe feels powerful thanks to the aggressive outsole. It’s made with high quality materials that feel great during your swing and confidently grip all kinds of ground. The fit is also different than other NIKE shoes we’ve tried on. They fit a little bit wider a truer in the forefoot, something that will benefit all golfers. The TW 17 is also available in wide width options for those who prefer it. If you’re in the market for a new pair of golf shoes, you can’t go wrong with the aggressive traction, top-notch cushioning and durable protection of NIKE’s new TW 17 golf shoes.

NIKE Lunar Control Vapor Golf Shoes

NIKE Mens Lunar Control Vapor Golf Shoes

NIKE Lunar Control Vapor Golf Shoes: NIKE has been an innovator in footwear since its inception. That certainly includes the game of golf. Their newest design, the Lunar Control Vapor golf shoes, features an eye-catching new outsole that NIKE calls Articulated Integrated Traction. We’ve never seen anything like this fin-shaped tread these golf shoes employ. So we talked to the NIKE Golf footwear design team to get the inside story on this new design. You can read our exclusive Q & A with them right here.

The Articulated Integrated Traction on the Lunar Control Vapor is impressive looking. How did the team at NIKE Golf develop this new spikeless design? There were a couple of goals our Design team had while designing Articulated Integrated Traction (AIT). The first was to make the most comfortable golf shoe possible. Comfort – especially underfoot – is always first on the list when we talk to golfers about what they want in a shoe. One way to make a golf shoe more comfortable is to remove spikes. Spikes make a shoe less flexible, remove cushioning, and can add pressure to the bottom of the foot. AIT is made from the same material found in a traditional spike plate, so it’s durable and provides great traction, but it’s also flexible and supportive. It’s truly the best of both worlds.

How does this new “tread” improve upon the usual spikeless outsole? What kind of performance benefits will golfers see from this new traction? First, AIT is more durable, provides better traction, and is lighter than a traditional rubber spikeless outsole. It’s made of a material called thermoplastic urethane and it proves an exceptionally stable platform. Additionally, the outsole is decoupled into three sections to allow the foot to move naturally through the swing and assist in smooth, efficient weight transfer.

We’ve seen the Flywire Technology from NIKE Golf before, but this shoe seems unique by featuring the wires visibly on the side of the. Can you tell us more about this design? We love Flywire and what it can do to keep the golfer locked down while saving weight. In the past, we’ve typically shrouded the Flywire to keep the design a bit more subtle, but on the Vapor we wanted it to be a key design feature of the shoe. Not only does it offer great lockdown and lateral support, but we think it looks pretty cool, too.

These shoes also feature the well-known Lunarlon cushioning. What performance does this provide to these shoes on the golf course? The midsole in the Lunar Control Vapor features NIKE’s signature Lunarlon foam. It’s 30% lighter than traditional EVA foam and allows the force of impact to be more evenly distributed. This helps reduce pressure points and offers the golfer a smooth, cushioned ride.

What kind of response has NIKE Golf been getting about this design? Is this a shoe that we’ll be seeing on the PGA Tour? The response from Tour athletes and everyday golfers has been phenomenal. The Lunar Control Vapor brings a fresh NIKE design and marries it to unrivaled cushioning and traction. It’s truly the ultimate golf shoe for the modern golf athlete.
