Q & A
Callaway's Mack Daddy 4 wedges set a new standard for performance and appearance. New for this year is Groove-in-Groove Technology that creates 84 points of contact with the golf ball for maximum spin. They've also added a new X-Grind for golfers who prefer high bounce in addition to the returning C-, S-, and W-Grinds. The C-Grind has been updated with more heel relief than previous versions. MD4 wedges are ideal for all types of golfers; it's a matter of matching the right loft and grind options to your swing type and typical turf conditions. With 21 loft-bounce combinations and two premium finishes, there's an MD4 wedge (or two or three!) for every golfer.
Callaway's newest technology maximizes face roughness and spin for ideal performance in any condition. A micro-positive surface roughness is milled into the flat parts of the face featuring raised micro-ridges with micro-grooves in between to grab the golf ball's cover. The main grooves are saw-cut and horizontally milled to precise tolerances. Lower-lofted wedges feature 20D grooves for consistent spin on full shots. Higher-lofted wedges have aggressive 5D grooves for maximum control out of taller grass and around the green.
The MD4 wedges feature four sole grinds with the addition of the new X-Grind. The C-Grind (8° bounce) has increased relief especially in the heel for easier shots with the face open, perfect for medium-to-shallow attack angles or firm course conditions. The S-Grind (10° bounce) is a medium width, moderate heel relief grind that promotes solid contact for most swing types and turf conditions. The W-Grind (12° bounce) is more versatile that in previous models. It's wider at the center and narrower at the heel and toe to prevent digging. The new X-Grind (12° bounce) features a narrow, high-bounce crescent shape that's excellent for moderate-to-steep attack angles and medium-to-soft course conditions.
Based on feedback from professional golfers, Roger Cleveland worked tirelessly to get the shapes, soles, grinds, and performance just right. MD4 wedges have a more compact shape, straighter leading edge with a tighter radius, and slightly more offset compared to the MD3.
The feel of the MD4 wedges starts with soft 8620 carbon steel in your chose of Platinum Chrome or Matte Black finish. Four weight ports on the back help Callaway place the center of gravity progressively upward as the loft increases for the most solid feel on every shot. Combined with a Dynamic Gold Tour-Issue 115 shaft and premium Lamkin UTx grip, the feel is enhanced even further.
MD4 comes in 21 combinations of loft and bounce to fit the way every golfer players. With nine available lofts, four sole grinds, and two premium finishes, you're sure to find a wedge you love with Callaway.
