Q & A

TaylorMade Men's P770 Irons

Precision, Control, And Enhanced Playability

Extensive feedback from touring professionals laid the groundwork for TaylorMade’s new P770 irons, which were ultimately designed by engineers to meet the needs of skilled golfers who are looking for the ultimate in control and feel in an iron. But these are also irons that still offer an impressive combination of higher launch conditions and forgiveness, a combination that greatly enhance playability. That said, it’s important to note that the P770 is a true players iron. It features thin toplines, compact blade shapes, and minimal offset, and its forged construction using soft 1025 carbon steel creates exceptional feel and acoustics at impact. In terms of playability, a lower CG placement makes the P770 irons more stable at impact and helps improve launch conditions, while a 70-gram piece of tungsten is utilized in the back bar in the 3-iron through 7-iron to provide additional help with launch in the long and mid irons. Also of note, the P770 irons feature a new sole design that’s flatter and has a medium camber, which results in improved turf interaction, while milled grooves and faces provide consistency in terms of distance, trajectory, and ball flight. The stock shaft for the P770 irons is the KBS Tour FLT, while the stock grip is the Golf Pride Tour Velvet.

Ideal For:

Low-handicappers and mid-handicap players who are solid ball-strikers. There’s no question that the P770 offers more in the way of forgiveness than many other players irons on the market, but these are still clubs that were designed with better players in mind. And that means that where they will excel is in terms of control, feel, and workability. All said, you don’t have to be a scratch player to put the P770 irons into your bag, but you should be someone who feels like you find the sweet spot more often than not.

Tungsten Weighting

Seventy grams of tungsten back-bar weighting in the 3-7 irons increases MOI and helps create optimal trajectory with the long and mid irons.

What They're Saying ...

“We’ve been working on these for about three years now with the Tour players, and it’s really been a very meticulous process of dialing in exactly what’s going to resonate with the best players in the world. We spent a lot of time especially with Justin Rose, but also Jason Day and Dustin Johnson, even Sergio Garcia and guys like that, to get all their feedback.”

Tomo Bystedt, TaylorMade Senior Director of Global Irons

“In the 770, what we’ve done there is remove the back part of the sole and replaced it with 70 grams of tungsten. What that’s doing for us is lowering the CG of the product and also spreading the inertia from heel to toe, and that’s going to create a very centric CG first of all but also a little bit more forgiveness.”

Tomo Bystedt, TaylorMade Senior Director of Global Irons

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I purchased the 770 and they are phased out. I did not have the ability to the club with an up graded shaft. I purchase this item and had to ship to Taylormade to upgrade the shaft. it would have been nice if I could have ordered with C- Taper shaft and also get 2 degrees up on the club.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from #Amazeballs I'm a high handicapper, but I've been practicing a lot this year, and wouldn't you know it, I left my old clubs in the car and someone felt like they needed them more than me. So there I am needing new clubs and against what people told me about these, not being right for a high handicappers and all, I just loved the feel during my fitting and went for them with the KBS tour FLT shafts. Since then, I've been playing better,, hitting center face, and knocking them on the green, or close, from 150+ out more than I ever have before. If you're a high handicapper and you're working on your game, don't be afraid of these, you might fall in love.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely disappointed with these irons. Terrible quality. I have used this set of irons a total of three times. They have already started to fall apart. I am very disappointed. For spending this type of money you would think that they could last a lot longer then three rounds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look GREAT. Hit even better! Played Titleist blades for years, just got these and hit them for the first time and it was like I found my new best friend. They look great at approach and hit like a dream. If you want something that could stay in your bag for along time I would recommend these irons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now this is a club worth owning!! TM accepted a trade in on my M2's (see that review) for these 770's. AWESOME club, my shot dispersion narrowed dramatically from the M2's and the Aerotech shaft is unbelievably perfect for the head, worth every penny. I will say that it is surprising that a manufacturer has such different specs from set to set, so make sure you understand the differences before you buy these.

Why don’t you show a Senior Flex?

Asked by: Fly girl
Unfortunately, we do not have any in stock sets that are in senior flex, however, you may order a senior flex set through a custom order. If you click the "enter custom specs" tab, which is located, just above the image of the irons, on the product page. You may customize the set of clubs to your specifications.
