Q & A

PING Men's Crossover Hybrid Iron

Performance In A Brand New Category

In designing the Crossover, PING’s engineers created a brand new category for the company with a club that has a very specific function. The Crossover takes the best qualities of a hybrid and combines them with the performance advantages that long irons offer. The result is a club that offers high launch and incredible distance but is also easy to work both in terms of ball flight and trajectory. This club, however, should not be confused with what has traditionally in the golf world been called a driving iron. The Crossover is not a driving iron. Unlike traditional driving irons, the thicker sole of the Crossover allows the CG (center of gravity) to be moved well back, creating the type of launch conditions and faster ball speeds typically seen in a hybrid. But the club’s flatter face is what enables the workability that the Crossover provides. Also of note, the Crossover features a unique black PVD finish, which gives the club a more compact look at address and provides excellent turf interaction.

Ideal For:

Golfers who are looking to replace long irons with a club that’s easier to launch but still provides a level of workability. The ability to work the ball might appeal more to a better player, but at the same time golfers of any ability level who don’t like the look of a traditional hybrid will enjoy similar performance in a club that has a cleaner, more compact profile.

Carpenter 455 Face

Strong, lightweight materials were used to construct the Crossover’s flat clubface, which generates higher launch and faster ball speeds.

Carpenter 455 Face

Extreme Heel-Toe Weighting

This design feature helps move the CG lower and further back, expanding the club’s perimeter weighting to maximize forgiveness.

Extreme Heel-Toe Weighting

Tiered Internal Sole

This innovative feature activates the clubface to flex properly during the swing to ensure faster ball speeds.

What They're Saying...

“What we were looking at with this design was long irons and hybrids and really taking the combination of the good qualities and advantages of what a hybrid can do, which is producing that higher launch, more ball speed, but also the workability and the versatility that a player gets with an iron and meld those in a new design. And that’s how we came up with the Crossover.”

Ryan Stokke, PING Design Engineering Manager

What Players Like You Are Saying...

“That thing’s hotter than a pistol. It’s a great feeling club and it’s not ugly to look down on. It goes a mile in the air and it’s a very piercing ball flight.”

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Crushes the ball I love this club, it's my go too club. It is simple to hit and the ball goes a mile and straight. I've a 4H with stiff staff and I'd only loose 10 yards on my 5 wood. I would of given it 5 stars but the shaft broke in the hosel and had to have it repaired. This seems to be a common problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow...just wow!! If you don’t have this club in your bag, you are missing a big opportunity to take strokes off your game. Off the tee or in the fairway, this is an extremely versatile club. I do miss the one and two irons of yesterday, but this club beats most clunky looking hybrids.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ping g crossover - solid feel! Got this club about a month ago, came quickly and as described. Was a great transaction with TGW. Product sets up nice and is a very solid from the fairway or tee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from exactly what ive been searching for Just bought 4 and 5 iron...... wished i had bought them sooner. Able to hit long par 3's now easily with great height on shots. Also easy to fade and draw shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great I still suck at golf but when I do hit a nice shot it flies

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to hit I bought this a few months ago as try different clubs for my set. This is great off the tee and shorter than an equal hybrid or fairway wood. A bit of a funny sound at impact, but the results are great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hit a 3 iron well, but not a fairway wood? Buy! If you are like me and struggle to hit fairway woods or hybrids, consider this club. I hit a 3 iron consistently well, but not a fairway wood. I am able to hit this club, on average, 30 yards further than my longest 3 irons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ball seems to jump off the club head! Bought the #5 last year and loved it. Was looking to find an easy to hit iron to fill the gap between my longest iron (#5) and my woods. The #4 Crossover Hybrid fit the bill. Easy to hit and has a lot of pop. Great addition to my set,

Hello, do you have this club in BLACK dot (standard lie)?

Asked by: Ivan1
The black dot lie angle is available for selection by using the Enter Custom Specs tab located above the photo of the club.

Is the blue dot the standard lie for this club? I ordered a stock 5 crossover and it came with a blue dot which is +3/4" in the Ping color system instead of a black dot which is standard lie.

Asked by: Club54
As far as I know the color code applies to all the clubs. I would check with PING if you really want a definitive answer.

What is difference between regular and hybrid irons? Is distance the same?

Asked by: Jimbo115
The difference is going to be a much higher launch while still keeping a similar distance. The hybrid iron will be similar to a hybrid in regards to the ball speed and launch but having the ease of addressing the ball that the iron gives.

So I have a Mizuno H5 3 iron in my bag that's 21*. I struggle with woods and hybrids but have no problem with long irons. Would this club be able to fit as a 2 iron replacement at 18* even though they're labeled as 3 irons?

Asked by: Matto31
Yes, a #3 in this club would be very similar to the 2-iron you mentioned since they are both going to be 18 degrees in loft.
