Q & A

  • Epic drivers and fairway woods have been an incredible success for Callaway by delivering players of all ability levels with ball speed increases that have subsequently led to significant distance gains.
  • As the ‘Epic’ name would suggest, these are irons that are producing faster ball speeds for more distance and incredible forgiveness.
  • Keying the ball speed increases are Callaway’s highly successful 360 Face Cup Technology, which enables more ball speed from across the clubface, and the Epic irons’ ExoCage construction, which allows the face to flex more at impact.
  • But the most significant innovation in the Epic irons is a new Tungsten-Infused Standing Wave, as different amounts of Tungsten are injected into the clubhead to alter the CG position of each iron in the set to deliver optimal performance.
  • More specifically, a lower CG placement in the long irons delivers effortless launch and increased carry distance, while a higher CG placement in the short irons promotes a lower, controlled ball flight, which is ideal for scoring shots.
  • In terms of the differences between the Epic standard and Pro model, it really comes down to aesthetics. The Pro version features smaller blade lengths, thinner toplines and soles, and less offset, which visually, as the name would suggest, will likely appeal to better players.
  • Stock shaft: Project X LZ 105 steel

Callaway Men's GBB Epic Pro Irons AW Project X LZ 105 is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most forgiving players irons on the market I purchased the epic pro irons and these are by far the best irons I have ever owned. All the benefits of a game improvement iron in a player iron package. Easy to get in the air, even the 3 iron, crazy distance, at least one club length longer than my old set. Pricy, yes, but worth every dollar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic Pro 4 iron review. I recently purchased a set of Epic Pro irons 5-PW and I decided to add the 4 iron to my set based on how much I liked my 5 iron. It fills the gap between my 5 wood and/or hybrid nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performance Excellent distance and forgiveness. Played some of my best golf with these irons. Easily a club to a club and 1/2 longer. Mishits stay on line and travel 90%. Only drawbacks are price and feel. Compared to forged irons feel is a little hard and "clicky"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Run and buy these!!! Yes! You'll have to sell a kidney to buy these irons. But hey, you've got two anyways. The pics online don't do the irons justice. They look 100% better in person. Thin topline. Gorgeous at address. I ordered mine with the recoil 660 shafts. These are without a doubt the longest players irons I've ever hit. The tech in the head is without a doubt a game changer in the industry. You're getting a players iron, but you're picking up between 1-2 clubs in distance because of the technology. The recoil shafts eliminated all vibrations but the heads give excellent feedback. Large sweet spot. The price is the only downside. But if you drive an expensive sports car, you'll get the idea behind these irons. To me, it comes down to one thing: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! I've bought a lot Callaway irons in the last 18 months. A set of the silver and black cf16's and a set of the latest steelhead irons and now the epic pro irons. The epic pros finally gave me what I was searching for (great feel, insane distance, great looks and excellent feedback)! Do yourself a favor and get fitted by someone who knows the product. And if you're a little older, give the recoil 660's a try! You'll never hit another iron smoother than this one!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic iron combo set My set consist of 4,5 and 6 in regular epic and 7 to aw in epic pro. The offset was hard to get use to in the scoring irons so the combo set was my best choice to fit my game. The epic irons have the feel of forged and the epic pros feel a little firmer but not harsh at all. Very forgiving on mishits , half a club longer then my steelhead pro's . For those that say they don't have enough spin I have to disagree they hold the green easily and I have had 8 iron back up no problem. If you get a chance demo a set, the tech in these irons is the real deal

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic pro irons Had a set basically custom built, 1/4 inch long, D2 sw with 73 gram grips, every club came out D2...these are long, smooth and look great, good match to my Epic SZ driver 3W and 2H. Love the Epic line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best feeling irons ever!!! More than satisfied... Highly recommend just trying them... I was skeptical and worried when I spent the money on these. Not sure if I'd like them.. I LOVE THEM!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice clubs but maybe don't live up to all of the hype. Bought the Epic Sub Zero Driver in the Spring and like it. I was all set to buy the Steelhead Irons but decided to wait for the Epic as the hype was just too much to ignore. Have been playing for about 3 weeks with The Epic Pro model. I have the stock shaft Project X LZ but in the heavier model (120 Gram) as I like a heavier feel. I have 1/2 inch longer than standard irons. The 105 gram shaft is too light for my liking. My previous shaft was Dynamic Gold S300 in TM Burner 09 Irons. The Epic Irons are pretty much 1 club shorter than my old set. As an example my PW was 145 yards and I need a 9 Iron in the Epics to hit 140-145. The irons have a nice soft feel when struck well. The flight is lower than my old clubs and easier to control. They seem to hold the green much better than my old model. Overall they are a nice club but for the price and all of the hype I wouldn't recommend them as I don't think they quite live up to it.. They do look lovely to the eye. I may have to take a bit more time to adjust to them. I'll play out the season and see what happens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Irons Replaced my Apex Pros with the Epic Pros. I've picked up 8-10 yards with the same loft on the clubs. Most noticeable,is the 5&6 irons. Birdied a hole I haven't before with 6 iron to 5 ft of the pin. Even with a miss hit I'm pin high, and I can work these easier than the Apex. Poor Callaway, I won't be buying anything new for a while. My complete Epic set is just too good!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Callaway delivers another set of great irons Great look and feel. Excellent at address but did not give me significant gains on my Apex set I presently play. Difficult to hit long irons high.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hot face in players club The Epic Pro irons sets up like a players iron with a clean look. They have a hot firm click at impact give a boring trajectory. These irons are playing around 5-7 yards longer than the Apex pro 16 (which I most recently played)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Irons- far from conventional Purchased these on a whim from the local golf shop, came with the LZ 6.0 (which feels very flimsy) but an impressive name for a stock shaft. Pleasantly surprised to say these are solid irons, very untraditional feel, untraditional look, but solid. Coming from Mizuno MP-69's it was a leap, but much more forgiving and high performing clubs if you give them a chance to develop. After a reshaft I'm sure I'll be gaming these for quite awhile. Disappointed I have to spend even more money to get a real shaft in clubs that retail for $1900.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive and Worth It I purchased a set of Epic Pro built to my specs directly from Callaway. The build quality was excellent with lie angles, lofts, etc spot on as ordered. As for the irons themselves Looks - Thin top line and compact head shape which is very appearing behind the ball. Absolutely gorgeous. Feel- Very good feel when hit on sweet spot. Feedback excellent on mishits. Can tell where I missed but punishment not to severe Trajectory -Naturally high but not ballooning. Piercing flight. Able to control the trajectorry and flight at will Workability- Can work at will. Knock dons, partial shots, etc no problem Distance - I am a full club longer than with my normal Srixon Forged irons. Overall. A great high quality product with lots of technology. Expensive? Yes but worth it in my opinion. Of course get fit to ensure they are built to your specs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent club, extremely overpriced As a guy who works at a golf course I hear a lot about brand new clubs entering the market and the members at my course were making a huge fuss over these irons. I decided to give these clubs a try knowing if I didn't like them I could resell them to a member at my course easily. Overall, I thought these irons hit pretty solid, but they added no yardage to my game. I found my Taylormade SLDR irons to fit my game a lot better than these. I let my dad, who plays with a set of XRs, try them and he didn't notice much of a difference either. I think if the price of these clubs were cheaper than one could justify buying these, but to me, why buy these when you can get a set of XRs or Apex for much cheaper? It's a nice club with decent spin on it that many players will like, it's just not worth the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible shaft quality control Purchased a set of these on Friday. Took them to my club fitter and the Project X 6.0's which were labeled as stiff flexed out as softer than Senior Flex on the frequency machine. Having my fitter pull and replace all of the shafts. Absolutely terrible quality control, especially at this price point!!
