Q & A

PING Men's G400 Fairways

Overview

  • As is the case with the entire G400 line, players can expect to see faster ball speeds and more distance when it comes to the new G400 fairway woods.
  • Fueling the ball speed and distance increases are a new Maraging Steel clubface that has been utilized in the design.
  • The clubface is made of C300 steel, which is lightweight, strong, and flexible, and the result is an increased flexing of the face that generates faster ball speeds from all impact points.
  • The G400 fairways also feature a cascading sole design that helps the clubface flex more at impact, and the sole design allows to the club to sit lower to the ground so that players naturally strike the ball higher on the clubface, which will improve launch conditions and overall results.
  • The G400 fairway woods are extremely forgiving thanks to a low, deep CG that has been made possible by a lightweight 17-4 stainless steel crown and a high-density back weight. More specifically, the G400 fairways offers MOI increases of roughly five percent above what the G fairway woods offered.
  • G400 fairway woods are available in lofts of 14.5, 17.5, 20.5, and 23.5 degrees. There’s also a strong 3-wood model, The Stretch, that features a larger profile, deeper face, and 13 degrees of loft for players who like to utilize a fairway wood primarily from the tee.
  • G400 fairway woods come with the high-launching Alta CB 65 as a stock shaft and with the Golf Pride Tour Velvet as a stock grip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from strong forgiving 3 wood Bought this two weeks ago and love the way the ball explodes off the face. By going to a strong 3 wood i got some much needed distance back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to hit great shots!! I've only had my new Ping G400 17.5 Degree 5 Wood for a short time but I found out in a hurry how great this Club is. I've hit it on the range & got 4 rounds with it. My only "miss hit" was 240 yards & a few feet off the fairway - this club is crazy good, straight, & long! I'm hitting this club 260 to 270..... Unreal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior Fairways! I have both 5 wood and 3 wood. There are extremely easy to hit out of rough or off the deck. And, these clubs are both hot and long. They have my total confidence. It’s exciting just to have them in my bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fairway metal I got fitted for a G400 driver last year. Loved it so much I had to get a fairway metal . I had A 3 metal Calloway steel head I liked and hit well. So I bought the G400 5 metal. Hit it twice the first time out playing. Ordered the 3 metal. Both clubs produce the best shots I’ve ever hit. Thanks Ping!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fairways and Greens My friends said I should critique clubs since I go through so many year after year. The G400 Driver, fairway, and hybrid has changed that. Still try what's new but come back to the G400's. I started with the G400 driver but went to the G400 Max 9 degree with point 6 degrees added .and haven't looked back. Being over 70 it's been some time that drives were near 250 yards but now not only are the drives on good days 250 but some out to the 270 range (Not carry of course). The best part is I'm hitting more fairways. I've let younger players try it since it is 48 inches long with the ALTA CB X Flex. Told all who tried it they would be 20 yards longer than their driver and sure enough they all did just that. A ranked ROLEX 17/18 Girl tried it and was 20 yards by her best tee ball and in the fairways both times. Everyone who tried it was ready to buy it off me. The fairway and hybrid G400's are beginning to come around but I love to tinker. My G400 fairway 14.5 is set at 13.9 and is 44.5" and has also the ALTA CB X Flex. The G400 hybrid is 19 degrees and has the ALTA CB X Flex extended 41.5". Ball flight on all clubs is penetrating with height you'd expect from X Flex. Grips have been changed to find the right feel but it seems to work for me with two wrap on a standard size tour velvet style grip. Never would have expected to use X flex as other model X shafts are way too stiff. Just bought the G400 13 degree Stretch with a PING Tour X 43" shaft. Can't wait to see what it does with my ALTA 3 wood shaft and different settings..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More quality from PING Bought this club for my 13 year old son. He already has the G400 driver and loves it! This fairway wood performs great just like the driver.

Is there very much difference between the g400 and the g in the5 wood. I'm always thinking there is enough improvement in the newer club to justify the little difference in price.

Asked by: Allen C
The G400 does have a different face construction as well as high-density tungsten weighting in the back.

what is difference between G400 Fairway woods and G400 SFT Fairway Woods

Asked by: Jim1970
The SFT, or Straight Flight Technology, version has a weight positioned closer to the heel of the club to make the club head easier to square at impact and straighten out your shots. It also has a lighter swing weight and slightly larger club head.
