As popular as Callaway golf clubs have been since the company’s inception, none were any more popular than the three models that comprised the original Steelhead fairway wood franchise. In fact, Callaway sold 2.3 million Steelhead fairway woods in the early to mid 2000s, which is a remarkable number. Not surprisingly, many Callaway fans had long hoped for a return of the Steelhead fairway wood, and that wish has now been granted with the release of brand new Steelhead XR fairways. While the new Steelhead XR will have the familiar shape and sole design of the original Steelhead, there have been numerous upgrades made in terms of technology.
Features:
Steelhead XR fairways feature a lightweight J-36 carbon crown, and the weight saved in constructing the crown has been repositioned to create an optimal CG position and enhanced perimeter weighting, the latter of which increases forgiveness.
Steelhead XR fairways feature Face Cup Technology, which leads to faster ball speeds from across the clubface for explosive distance.
As mentioned, the Steelhead fairways also feature Callaway’s popular Hawkeye sole design, which enables effortless launch from the turf and the versatility to play shots from poor lies.
Also of note, Steelhead XR fairways have a more forward CG location to reduce spin, and they also have a deeper face than Callaway’s other current fairway wood offerings.
Steelhead XR fairway woods feature a bonded hosel design and are available in lofts of 13.5, 15, 16, 18, 20.5, 21, and 24 degrees. They also feature the smooth, mid-launching Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue as a stock shaft.
Includes headcover
Next Generation Face Cup Technology

J-36 Carbon Crown
Lightweight crown design allows weight to be repositioned in the clubhead to create effortless launch and enhanced forgiveness.
Modern Hawkeye Sole
Helps promote higher launch conditions and also offers more versatility to play shots from poor lies, the rough, or fairway bunkers.

Great feelCross between old model Hawkeye and steelhead with the best of both. Hit it solid from the first swing.

No goodNot a club that is easy to hit. Not very long from fairway or tee. Difficult to hit from fairway lies.

5 wood - fairway and green finderPurchased the Steelhead 5 wood after scrapping my hybrid. Love how Callaway offers shaft upgrades. Added an Adila Max Rogue 75gm X stiff, the same shaft I have in my Epic Subzero Driver and Epic Subzero 3+ wood. Mishits are solid but there is a large sweet spot. I use this club off the tee on tight par 4's and off the deck.

Good value for a classic looking fairway wood. This one is one of the best looking fairway woods in the market. Unfortunately it doesn't have any adjustability
options on it.
Yes, a Callaway headcover is included with these clubs.

Senior shaft flex will be a lighter, more flexible shaft to help performance with slower swing speeds.

How do I decide on shaft type?
Asked by: Grindie
It is all about personal preference as well as your swing type. The only way to know which one would work best for you is to be fitted at a local pro shop.
