Q & A

Overview

  • The mantra around RTX-3 is that these are wedges designed to help golfers get the ball closer to the hole, both on full shots and in the short game. Cleveland believes that three design elements will allow these wedges to achieve that goal, as well as give players more consistent results.
  • The CG in RTX-3 has been moved away from the hosel and closer to the center of the clubface, with the result being improved feel, enhanced stability on all shots, and tighter shot dispersion.
  • RTX-3 wedges utilize a new V Sole Grind that improves turf interaction, which was accomplished by adding bounce to the leading edge.
  • Because RTX-3 wedges glide through the turf so effortlessly, clubhead speeds remain constant and players are able to hit the ball more precise yardages.
  • A new Rotex clubface is being used, with improved and consistent spin from all turf conditions being its calling card.
  • The new Tour Zip Grooves are deeper and narrower for more spin, while the micro-milling pattern is angled on sand and lob wedges to increase spin on shots played with an open clubface.

Features

  • Feel Balancing technology
  • V Sole Grinds
  • New Rotex face
  • RTX-3 wedges also feature three unique finishes, Tour Satin, Black Satin, and Tour Raw
  • The Black Satin finish has been designed to last longer than typical black finishes, while the Raw finish that’s available is identical to the Raw finish being played by the majority of Cleveland’s touring professionals.
  • Stock shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold
  • Stock grip: Cleveland Blue Cap by Lamkin

Feel Balancing Technology

By saving weight from the hosel design, the CG was able to be moved closer to the center of the clubface to improve feel, stability, and dispersion.

V Sole Grinds

More bounce has been added to the leading edge to improve turf interaction, creating more consistent speed through the shot and more consistent results. In terms of helping consumers pick the right wedges for their game, Cleveland is again using its dot system. One-dot wedges, also labeled as V-LG (V Sole, low bounce), are designed for players with shallow angles of attack and will work well from firmer turf and sand conditions. Three-dot wedges, meanwhile, also labeled as V-FG (high bounce, full sole), will work best for players with steeper angles of attack and from softer turf and sand conditions. Finally, two-dot models, or V-MG (mid bounce), are the most neutral designs and will work well for a wide variety of players and from all turf conditions.

New Rotex Face

New Tour Zip Grooves are deeper and more narrow to increase spin, especially from the rough. Additionally, the micro-milling on higher lofts (54-64) is angled to keep spin rates high on shots played with an open clubface.

Cleveland Men's RTX-3 Black Satin Wedges 12.0 Dynamic Gold Steel is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely pleased Very east to hit. I bought 3 of these (50, 56, and 60 degree) and couldn’t be happier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect My first set of wedges. True lifesavers! The 52 gets up on the air rather quickly and lands soft.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great wedge! Solid club. Got the 60 degree loft. First time using it could already tell how much easier it was to get under the ball on each shot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wonderful wedge I bought this new Cleveland wedge to replace my old one that had worn down grooves. It lives up to the Cleveland reputation for begging a leading wedge maker. The rtx3 does everything i need to hit it close.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome wedges I bought the 50 and 58 degree. I actually like them a lot more than the titleist wedges I was replacing. They have a solid feel and set up is perfect. I would highly recommend them. I am hitting it closer from the fairway and even chipped in at least once per round for my first three rounds with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected!!! A wedge is a wedge, right? As long as I have a pitching wedge and a sand wedge, then I will be okay. That's what I thought for the past 30 years anyway. Well, I will admit that I have been wrong for 3 decades. So, I finally decided to replace an old sand wedge with barely any grooves left and thought I should add a lob wedge to my arsenal as well. I went to local stores and tried out a lot of other brand names in their swing-bays, but never thought to look at Cleveland for some reason. Trying to figure out the right loft/bounce/grind can be a painful experience.......I mean, Titliest has 6 different grinds and 5 different bounce options.......Callaway has 5 grinds.........Ping has 4 grinds...........it's a bit overwhelming. I found the Cleveland RTX-3 at a fantastic sale price on TGW last month, practically half the price of the others and figured I would give them a try without ever hitting a Cleveland Wedge before. I just need to know the loft and how many dots to reflect which grind...........56 degree/3 dot..........60 degree/2 dot. The selection was supremely simple. TGW's delivery was perfectly on time as I got the wedges 2 days before a tournament I played in last week. I can't believe the difference these clubs made in my game. Chips, pitches, and full shots were all flying/landing amazing when I managed a decent to perfect swing. Contact was clean, crisp, soft, and the weighting just felt right. Funny story.........the person I played with had been using the Cleveland Tour Action 588 wedges for a couple years. We were facing an 80 yard uphill approach shot when I asked if he wanted to try my RTX-3 instead. He said he liked the weighting of mine better as his ball landed 2 feet from the pin. I explained they moved 8 oz. from the hozel to the clubhead which moved the Center of Gravity/Sweet Spot slightly towards the toe as well. He said he needed to get his hands on the RTX-3's as soon as possible. I am extremely happy with these clubs and can't wait to keep using them for years to come. I would highly recommend these to anyone, especially at these sale prices.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good wedges Old Cleveland wedges were given to grandsons. These new wedges are great improvements. Easy to hit, don’t dig into our soft bent fairways. Shipped quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great around the greens I swapped this club out with the mid grind I had in my bag previously. I needed a club that was easier to hit from tight lies around the greens and it didn't disappoint. It has worked like a charm, super easy to pop the ball up from those tight lies on the course!

How do you choose the right bounce?

Asked by: Sammy the bull
The bounce will mostly depend on your swing type and typical playing surface conditions. One-dot wedges, also labeled as V-LG (V Sole, low bounce), are designed for players with shallow angles of attack and will work well from firmer turf and sand conditions. Three-dot wedges, meanwhile, also labeled as V-FG (high bounce, full sole), will work best for players with steeper angles of attack and from softer turf and sand conditions. what are the different grinds, i plan on having my pro order the V MG but unsure which is best. just replacing  an RTX 3 w/ 14 degree bounce

Asked by: Dennis Colson
The different sole grinds on these new wedges are V-LG (low bounce), V-MG (mid bounce) and V-FG (high bounce). 14° bounce is a V-FG option with the 54° and 56° wedges.

I have an old 56 degree Cleveland 588 gun metal SW (purchased in the 90's) that is WORN OUT... almost no groves. How do I identify the "bounce" as I'd like to replicate it and buy one of the newer Cleveland SWs.

Asked by: RMJ4011
The bounce angle is the angle between the ground and the leading edge of the club when the sole is rested on the ground. If you have a steeper angle of attack and take large divots, you'll want more bounce to prevent the club from digging into the ground. If you have a shallow angle of attack and take little to no divot, you'll want less bounce to help get the leading edge of the club under the ball and improve launch. Bounce options will vary depending on which loft you select.
