Callaway Mens XR 16 Pro Golf Drivers

Forgiveness Meets Fast For Better Golfers

The XR 16 Pro has many of the same performance features that are incorporated in the XR 16, especially as it relates to improved aerodynamics, which were achieved by Callaway with help from Boeing to reduce air drag and generate higher clubhead speeds. But there are some notable differences in the two models as well. First, the CG in the XR 16 Pro has been positioned differently to reduce spin rates, making it a popular choice among high-spin players. Also, the Pro is smaller at 450cc. But visually, it will look even more than 10cc smaller than the XR 16 because of a deeper face, which in addition to helping to lower spin rates will also offer players the ability to work the ball easier. The other major differences relate to the Pro’s standard specs, as it comes 1/4 of an inch shorter in length than the XR 16 and features a slightly heavier stock shaft, attributes that will often appeal to better players.

Ideal For:

High-spin players who are need of technology to reduce spin rates. However, the design of the XR 16 Pro, most notably its smaller overall profile and deeper face will likely appeal visually to better players. It’s not an unforgiving driver by any means, however, and much of the same technology that makes XR 16 fast and forgiving still exists in the Pro, so a higher-handicap golfer could certainly play this driver if it was the right fit. All said, if you know you need to bring your spin down and/or you want to control trajectory and ball flight more easily, XR 16 Pro would be a good option.

Re-Engineered Speed Step Crown

Boeing helped Callaway redesign the Speed Step and its improved aerodynamics reduce air drag throughout the swing, with the end result being more clubhead speed and improved distance.

Callaway was able to make the clubface lighter and thinner on the XR 16 Pro, which leads to faster ball speeds. Additionally, the weight saved with the thinner face was redistributed throughout the clubhead to improve forgiveness.

Opti-Fit Hosel

Eight different settings and 3 degrees of adjustability (+/- 1.5 degrees of loft) assist golfers in producing their desired ball flight and trajectory.

What They're Saying...

“What you’ll see here as compared to the standard XR16, it’s a little bit deeper face. This is going to be a lower spinning head than the regular XR16. But we still have the speed step, which was part of our collaboration with Boeing. So you’re going to have a very aerodynamic driver but still quite forgiving. This is not an unforgiving driver even though we’re calling it the XR Pro.”

Dave Neville, Callaway Global Director for Woods and Wedges

“What’s important with the driver is it needs to be aerodynamic in all positions. By having it aerodynamic both on the top and the bottom that’s going to help you with your clubhead speed throughout the swing.”
