Q & A

Callaway's Mack Daddy 4 wedges set a new standard for performance and appearance. New for this year is Groove-in-Groove Technology that creates 84 points of contact with the golf ball for maximum spin. They've also added a new X-Grind for golfers who prefer high bounce in addition to the returning C-, S-, and W-Grinds. The C-Grind has been updated with more heel relief than previous versions. MD4 wedges are ideal for all types of golfers; it's a matter of matching the right loft and grind options to your swing type and typical turf conditions. With 21 loft-bounce combinations and two premium finishes, there's an MD4 wedge (or two or three!) for every golfer.

  • New Groove-in-Groove Technology features micro-positive surface texture with radius grooves raised off the face for more grip and maximum spin
  • Four sole grinds to fit every type of swing and turf: C-Grind, S-Grind, W-Grind, and the new X-Grind
  • Tour-inspired compact shape with features like a straighter leading edge developed through input from professional golfers
  • Soft carbon steel construction, precise CG locations, and crisp turf interaction delivers a satisfying feel
  • Available in your choice of platinum chrome or black matte finish

Groove-In-Groove Technology

Callaway's newest technology maximizes face roughness and spin for ideal performance in any condition. A micro-positive surface roughness is milled into the flat parts of the face featuring raised micro-ridges with micro-grooves in between to grab the golf ball's cover. The main grooves are saw-cut and horizontally milled to precise tolerances. Lower-lofted wedges feature 20D grooves for consistent spin on full shots. Higher-lofted wedges have aggressive 5D grooves for maximum control out of taller grass and around the green.

Four Grind Options

The MD4 wedges feature four sole grinds with the addition of the new X-Grind. The C-Grind (8° bounce) has increased relief especially in the heel for easier shots with the face open, perfect for medium-to-shallow attack angles or firm course conditions. The S-Grind (10° bounce) is a medium width, moderate heel relief grind that promotes solid contact for most swing types and turf conditions. The W-Grind (12° bounce) is more versatile that in previous models. It's wider at the center and narrower at the heel and toe to prevent digging. The new X-Grind (12° bounce) features a narrow, high-bounce crescent shape that's excellent for moderate-to-steep attack angles and medium-to-soft course conditions.

Tour-Inspired Shape

Based on feedback from professional golfers, Roger Cleveland worked tirelessly to get the shapes, soles, grinds, and performance just right. MD4 wedges have a more compact shape, straighter leading edge with a tighter radius, and slightly more offset compared to the MD3.

Unique, Satisfying Feel

The feel of the MD4 wedges starts with soft 8620 carbon steel in your chose of Platinum Chrome or Matte Black finish. Four weight ports on the back help Callaway place the center of gravity progressively upward as the loft increases for the most solid feel on every shot. Combined with a Dynamic Gold Tour-Issue 115 shaft and premium Lamkin UTx grip, the feel is enhanced even further.

More Scoring Options Than Ever Before

MD4 comes in 21 combinations of loft and bounce to fit the way every golfer players. With nine available lofts, four sole grinds, and two premium finishes, you're sure to find a wedge you love with Callaway.

Callaway Men's Mack Daddy 4 Black Matte Wedges 12.0 TT XP-115 Steel is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old Man's 4th MD4 wedge Love the soft feel of these compared to SM Vokeys. Great control all around the green. Plus I like the black color. No glare in the sun, and tho the color seems very durable, but does wear a little. It's battle scars shows we've been through the wars together.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Black finish wears within a few days. Really doesn't hold up long enough to justify the purchase. Should have gone with the chrome. Callaway should either improve durability of black finish or do better job of warning customers of the quick wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its like a magic wand! I recently purchased two MD4s (54° & 58°) to not only replace what I had in my bag but also to complement my MD3 50°. The performance of both did not disappoint in the least.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great feel I bought this wedge in a 52 degree last month and have played seven times with it. I have the Mack daddy PM grind in 56, and 60 degree if I didnt love them so much I’d replace them with MD4’s . Best wedges out there.

I was interested in purchasing this Callaway club at 60 degree loft.   I’m confused which grind/bounce would be best for me.  I am in the mid 90’s.   Need the most help from the club...

Here are the grinds explained to help you better choose which grind will work better for you: C-Grind - Increased relief, especially at the heel, makes it easier to play a variety of shots with the face open. Ideal for medium-to-shallow attack angles and/or rm course conditions. 8° bounce. S-Grind - Medium-width sole with slight ribbon at the back and moderate heel relief to keep the leading edge low through impact, promoting solid contact on open-faced shots. 10° bounce W-Grind - Sole is wider at the center and toe and narrower at the heel, with moderate heel relief and generous front-to- back camber. That prevents digging without increasing bounce, and keeps the leading edge close to the turf at impact. More versatile than our previous W-Grind. 12° bounce. X-Grind - This new grind features a narrow, high-bounce crescent sole, with the low point near the front. Excellent for moderate-to-steep attack angles and medium-to-soft course conditions. 12° bounce.
