Callaway Men's GBB Epic Fairway Woods

More Distance And Forgiveness Create An Epic Combination

Given all of the attention that Jailbreak Technology has received as it relates to Callaway’s new Epic and Epic Sub Zero drivers, golfers might wonder why the new GBB Epic fairway woods don’t have Jailbreak Technology. The answer is that the shallower height of a fairway clubface won’t allow for the internal titanium rods. That said, to assume that the GBB Epic fairway woods are any less explosive would be a mistake. The driving force behind Callaway’s success in the fairway wood market in recent years has been Face Cup Technology, and the new Fourth Generation Face Cup in the Epic fairways is creating faster ball speeds and also maintaining higher ball speeds on mis-hits. Also key to the design is the use of lightweight triaxial carbon, which is 78 percent lighter than steel, in the crown. The weight saved by using triaxial carbon allowed engineers to move the CG lower and deeper in the clubhead with the result being higher MOI, effortless launch conditions, and lower spin rates. The Epic fairway woods also feature an aerodynamic speed step on the crown, which reduces air drag during the swing and helps players create more swing speed. GBB Epic fairway woods are available in lofts of 13.5 (167cc), 15 (177cc) and 18 (156cc) degrees, with each of those models featuring an adjustable loft sleeve that allows players to strengthen loft by a degree or weaken loft by two degrees, as well as create a draw bias. Also available is a 20-degree Heavenwood (166cc) that has the same adjustability, as well well as 21-degree (146cc) and 24-degree (136cc) models that feature bonded hosels. Additionally, the stock shaft offerings for the GBB Epic fairways are extensive, with options from Mitsubishi, Project X, Fujikura, and Aldila being offered in varying weight classes, flexes, and launch/spin profiles to suit the needs of any player (see shaft chart below for more details). Each Epic fairway wood has a swing weight of D2.

Ideal For:

Players of all ability levels. GBB Epic fairway woods are easy to launch from the turf or a tee, they’re incredibly forgiving, and they deliver the type of explosive distance that has made Callaway a force in the fairway wood market in recent years. There are also a wide array of loft and shaft options for players to choose from, as well as adjustability options in the OptiFit hosel. Add it all together and the GBB Epic fairway woods pretty much offer something for everyone. If you are, however, a player who is looking for enhanced workability or you need to bring your spin rates down, the GBB Epic Sub Zero fairway woods might be an even better fit.

Triaxial Carbon Crown

Incredibly light triaxial carbon allows for a crown that weighs 78 percent less than a traditional steel crown and enables a low CG placement and higher MOI.

Fourth Generation Hyper Speed Face Cup

A more responsive Face Cup creates higher ball speeds and better preserves that speed on mis-hits.

Aerodynamic Speed Step

Callaway’s proprietary Speed Step on the crown reduces drag to help players effortlessly produce more swing speed.

What They're Saying ...

“The fairway woods don’t have Jailbreak Technology because of the heights of the clubface, but this is the best ball speed producing technology we’ve ever had in a fairway wood. It’s extremely, extremely hot.”

Dave Neville, Callaway Senior Director of Brand Management

“The big thing is the Triaxial Carbon Crown on both of the fairways. When you go from 26 to 5.8 grams, that’s a huge number in terms of being able to get the MOI and ball speeds up.”

Dave Neville, Callaway Senior Director of Brand Management

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great club! I purchase an Epic 3+ fairway wood. It is an awesome club. I have always been a fan of Callaway woods having owned several over the year. The Epic woods surpass previous Callaway woods!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adjustable and Very Easy to Hit! I have had a Callaway Epic Hybrid for about 1 year and absolutely loved it! Decided to buy the Callaway Epic GBB 5 wood largely because it was adjustable for both loft and draw/fade. Just like the hybrid, it has quickly become one of the favorite clubs in my bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my new Epic Fairway Woods I borrowed a friends Epic 3 wood and hit it better than any other wood ever. As a result I rushed right out and bought myself one. I recently added the Epic Heaven wood to complete my set. I absolute love this club as well. Both hit longer and with more forgiveness than I've ever experienced before. Would definitely recommend them.

how do you adjust the loft. Do you tighten until it clicks like the Anser driver I have??

Asked by: Dend
Yes. Mostly all drivers will adjust the same way in terms of loft adjustments. You use your wrench to loosen the hosel, and switch the loft specs to your desired loft. The increments are in .5 degrees on the adjustment notch.

what is the difference between 9 wood and heavenwood

Asked by: stanleyS
The Heavenwood provides long distance and ball flight control which gives golfers a great alternative to conventional fairway woods. It is designed for players who struggle to hit lower lofted fairway woods off the ground but are still looking for maximum distance. The 9-wood has a 24 degree loft (compared to the Heavenwood's 20.5 degree loft), which is the highest loft possible on a fairway wood before any adjustments are made A 9-wood will not travel as far as the Heavenwood, because it has a higher loft.
