Callaway Men's GBB Epic Pro Irons

The Most Advanced Callaway Irons Ever Made

Epic drivers and fairway woods have been an incredible success for Callaway by delivering players of all ability levels with ball speed increases that have subsequently led to significant distance gains. Even more impressively, Callaway has been able to deliver those additional yards while actually increasing forgiveness in those clubs. Not surprisingly, Callaway engineers had also been working intently on bringing irons to market that could offer the same playability benefits to golfers. In fact, they had been instructed by Callaway brass to go out and create the most advanced irons in golf regardless of the time and costs associated with the project. The result of those efforts, which included contributions from 70 different engineers, are the new GBB Epic and Epic Pro irons. And as the ‘Epic’ name would suggest, these are irons that are producing faster ball speeds for more distance and incredible forgiveness. Keying the ball speed increases are Callaway’s highly successful 360 Face Cup Technology, which enables more ball speed from across the clubface, and the Epic irons’ ExoCage construction, which allows the face to flex more at impact. But the most significant innovation in the Epic irons is a new Tungsten-Infused Standing Wave, as different amounts of Tungsten are injected into the clubhead to alter the CG position of each iron in the set to deliver optimal performance. More specifically, a lower CG placement in the long irons delivers effortless launch and increased carry distance, while a higher CG placement in the short irons promotes a lower, controlled ball flight, which is ideal for scoring shots. In terms of the differences between the Epic standard and Pro model, it really comes down to aesthetics. The Pro version features smaller blade lengths, thinner toplines and soles, and less offset, which visually, as the name would suggest, will likely appeal to better players.

Ideal For:

Low- and mid-handicap golfers. At address, the GBB Epic Pro irons have the look of a true players club, as they feature thin toplines, a compact blade shape, and minimal offset. A thinner sole will also help make the Pro model easier to shape shots with than the standard Epic. That said, thanks to the technological advances that have been made with these irons as it relates to distance and forgiveness, these are irons that can be played effectively by far more than just scratch or low single-digit golfers.

Exo-Cage Head Construction

Allows for a stiffer body that in turn enables the clubface to flex more easily for explosive ball speed across the face.

Next-Generation 360 Face Cup

Enables a thinner clubface that also helps produce more ball speed from all impact locations.

Tungsten-Infused Standing Wave

Different amounts of tungsten weighting are incorporated into each iron to influence CG position and optimize performance.

What They're Saying ...

“These are our highest performing irons that we’ve ever designed. You’re going to see more ball speed, there’s a lot of forgiveness built in, (and they) come in both a standard and a pro, so there’s something to fit just about everybody.”

Luke Williams, Callaway Senior Director of Global Product Strategy for Irons

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these new irons! Way better than the Taylormade irons I had. Great control, consistent launch and good feel. Best ever!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Calloway’s best complete set I have been doing the trade in trade up program since 1999. It will be difficult to even consider trading the whole series of Epic pro irons and Epic sub zero driver and fairway wood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible irons I'm an 8 handicap and like irons with a more traditional look but I also need some forgiveness. These irons look the way I like and feel and perform the way I like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Next Generation is EXPLOSIVE and Workable Have the X-Forged (BEST Feel!) and was happy, but working at a Shop has its drawbacks, however. Gave the Epic Pro a try and found the it is a BETTER Fit for my game! Hitting these 1 club further and they feel surprisingly good. These are a part of the next generation of irons that deliver explosive power off of the club face AND a workable shot. Knockdown shots are a pretty simple affair, and the high draw/fade is simply a matter of a full follow-through because the tech in the heads makes the ball behave like it was shot from a gun. I do find them to be a bit more forgiving than the X-Forged, and that is where the better fit comes in. I am not a threat to 80 for a bit, so the errant (i.e. Fat) shots need a bit more help than the true forgings are willing to deliver on a consistent basis. Thin shots are noticeable as well, but the penalty is less severe. As a result I have sacrificed a bit of feel (and a fair bit of cash, even after I sold the X-Forged set) for a LOT of distance and a bag that simply makes more sense for me. I am a bit poorer, but my game is MUCH Happier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive, but still a great iron set. Bought irons for the distance and appearance of the pro head. Like the feel and sound on a well struck ball. The styling of the head is pleasing and promotes confidence. I have other sets of clubs that are similar in that they are dialed up in the loft category for distance claims and they are just as expensive. Of course if the price is all your looking for, there are sets out there of you.The finish has held up well and cleans easily.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product is over priced The irons do not have the feel of a players iron that I was expecting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great feel and forgiving. Callaway has outdone themselves with these Epic pro irons. If you can afford these irons I would highly recommend you to go get them. The Epc pro irons are the most forgiving irons I have ever played. All of my miss hits have been off line by only 10 yards or less. These irons give you great feedback and you can work a draw or fade with ease. The ball explodes off the face of the clubs. I have gained 7 to 10 yards with each irons compared to my current xr16. My launch angle and decenct angle are perfect. The only complaint I have is I would like my spin numbers to be a little higher in my mid to low irons. I have tried all kinds of irons including PXG and in my opinion these are the best irons on the market. I have tried 6 different shaft with the epic head and I found that the project x LZ works best and I believe the shaft helps get you those extra yards.
