Callaway Men's GBB Epic Irons

The Most Advanced Callaway Irons Ever Made

Epic drivers and fairway woods have been an incredible success for Callaway by delivering players of all ability levels with ball speed increases that have subsequently led to significant distance gains. Even more impressively, Callaway has been able to deliver those additional yards while actually increasing forgiveness in those clubs. Not surprisingly, Callaway engineers had also been working intently on bringing irons to market that could offer the same playability benefits to golfers. In fact, they had been instructed by Callaway brass to go out and create the most advanced irons in golf regardless of the time and costs associated with the project. The result of those efforts, which included contributions from 70 different engineers, are the new GBB Epic and Epic Pro irons. And as the ‘Epic’ name would suggest, these are irons that are producing faster ball speeds for more distance and incredible forgiveness. Keying the ball speed increases are Callaway’s highly successful 360 Face Cup Technology, which enables more ball speed from across the clubface, and the Epic irons’ ExoCage construction, which allows the face to flex more at impact. But the most significant innovation in the Epic irons is a new Tungsten-Infused Standing Wave, as different amounts of Tungsten are injected into the clubhead to alter the CG position of each iron in the set to deliver optimal performance. More specifically, a lower CG placement in the long irons delivers effortless launch and increased carry distance, while a higher CG placement in the short irons promotes a lower, controlled ball flight, which is ideal for scoring shots. In terms of the differences between the Epic standard and Pro model, it really comes down to aesthetics. The Pro version features smaller blade lengths, thinner toplines and soles, and less offset, which visually, as the name would suggest, will likely appeal to better players.

Ideal For:

Golfers of all ability levels. Callaway would categorize its new GBB Epic irons as game-improvement clubs, but these are irons that will fit a wide range of players. While they will provide the incredible distance, launch, and forgiveness that higher-handicappers want and need, the Epic irons still have a clean look and will offer the impressive feel and acoustics that a better player prefers. For those who place a high premium on the ability to work the ball, however, the smaller Epic Pro irons would definitely be worth a look.

Exo-Cage Head Construction

Allows for a stiffer body that in turn enables the clubface to flex more easily for explosive ball speed across the face.

Next-Generation 360 Face Cup

Enables a thinner clubface that also helps produce more ball speed from all impact locations.

Tungsten-Infused Standing Wave

Different amounts of tungsten weighting are incorporated into each iron to influence CG position and optimize performance.

What They're Saying ...

“These are our highest performing irons that we’ve ever designed. You’re going to see more ball speed, there’s a lot of forgiveness built in, (and they) come in both a standard and a pro, so there’s something to fit just about everybody.”

Luke Williams, Callaway Senior Director of Global Product Strategy for Irons

Callaway Men's GBB Epic Irons is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go low. I purchased these after injuring my shoulder. I added 10 to 15 yards per iron while hitting them like they have a built in lazor.
