Callaway Men's GBB Epic Driver

Jailbreak Technology Unleashing Faster Ball Speeds

As a company, Callaway seemingly has produced great drivers year after year, but with the advent of Jailbreak Technology, the new GBB Epic drivers, both the standard model and the Sub Zero model, have exceeded all others in terms of buzz and excitement. The primary reason for that have been the sizeable increases that Callaway has seen in ball speeds during testing. Keying those increases is Jailbreak Technology, which utilizes two titanium rods within the construction of the Epic drivers that connect the crown and sole to keep the clubface from expanding and losing energy transfer at impact. Also of note, the Epic drivers feature an extremely low, deep CG placement that was enabled by the use of lightweight triaxial carbon in the design and the result is high launch, low spin, and increased MOI. Additionally, a Speed Step on the crown reduces air drag during the swing to help increase swing speed. Both GBB Epic models are 460cc but the standard Epic has a weight track around the perimeter of the club that allows a 17-gram weight to be moved to help players create a ball flight bias or combat a typical miss, and it also has a slightly shallower profile. Callaway is also again utilizing its OptiFit hosel, which allows players to adjust loft by +2/-1 degrees and additional draw settings are also available. The GBB Epic driver is available in standard lofts of 9, 10.5, and 13.5 degrees, it comes at a stock length of 45.5 inches, the swing weight is D3, and custom paintfill options are are also available. It also features stock shaft offerings from Mitsubishi, Project X, Fujikura, and Aldila in varying weight classes, flexes, and launch/spin profiles to suit the needs of any player (see shaft chart below for more details).

Ideal For:

Players of all ability levels. The GBB Epic driver offers what pretty much every golfer is looking for in terms of impressive ball speeds, incredible forgiveness, low spin, and high launch. Additionally, between the OptiFit hosel and the weight track on the sole, there’s ample customization for players to achieve exactly what they’re looking for in terms of ball flight and trajectory. For those who generate extremely high spin rates with the driver, either based on swing speed or angle of attack, the Epic Sub Zero might be a better choice, but the standard Epic will fit a wide array of golfers exceptionally well.

Callaway GBB Epic Drivers with TGW

Watch as TGW talks about the new Callaway GBB Epic Drivers.

Jailbreak Technology

Titanium rods connecting the crown and the sole prevent a loss of energy at impact for higher ball speeds from across the clubface.

Exo-Cage Construction

A titanium cage surrounded by lightweight triaxial carbon enables a low, deep CG placement for high launch, low spin, and max forgiveness.

Adjustable Perimeter Weighting

A 17-gram weight can be positioned in a track along the back portion of the club that gives players more shot-shaping control.

Aerodynamic Speed Step

Callaway’s proprietary Speed Step on the crown reduces drag to help players effortlessly produce more swing speed.

What They're Saying ...

“It’s the fastest driver that we’ve ever made. We had tremendous success with XR 16 but (Epic) blows that out of the water. We’ve never seen ball speeds like this.”

Dave Neville, Callaway Senior Director of Brand Management

“The track is shorter. If you’re in the current Great Big Bertha and you slam that weight all the way to the heel you’re losing about 500 MOI points So we’ve shortened the track and added a heavier weight, 17 grams as opposed to 10, and we’ve kept the MOI up and have more ball flight control.”

Dave Neville, Callaway Senior Director of Brand Management

“If you need shot shape correction, meaning left or right, the standard Epic is going to work for a lot of players. But if you’re someone who needs trajectory control, whether it’s up or down, the Sub Zero could be a great fit.”

Dave Neville, Callaway Senior Director of Brand Management

“There’s been a lot of talk that this club is going to be a game-changer for people, and having hit it, you can’t argue with that. The kind of numbers we saw in terms of increases in ball speed were really significant.”

Chris Wallace, TGW staff writer

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The whole top of my first one came off! Poorly made and way too expensive. Why did Callaway cut a brand new whole club when all they had to do is send me a driver head to replace the broken one. The top came off during a normal swing warming up before a round. I had to play for over two weeks without a driver!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Senior Golfer Drives with Big Boys Love my GBB Epic driver. I am a senior golfer and hve been unable to play with the younger guys because of their distance off the tee. Now I am 20-30 yards longer CONSISTENTLY!!!! And, I am now hitting fairway 8 to 10 times per round. Handicap is down 4 strokes in 3 months. Love this driver!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Starting Again- WOW! I played golf when I was younger through my college years. Kids, work, and lack of time caused me to quit the game that I love. When I recently committed to playing again I was going to do it right with the best clubs possible. I bought the Epic Driver based on a recommendation by the Club Pro and I will probably never swing another driver again. I liked it so much I bought one for my friend for his birthday so he would quit using mine. Best club ever!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Driver I've Owned I'm 61 and with my Epic, I can still carry the ball 245+. Even off center strikes still give better than average distance. For better golfers, multiple adjustments to fine tune to your preferences. Takes away the excuses.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible quality Upon receiving my Epic driver, I took it to the driving range and was impressed by the distance and accuracy of the club. That is, until the top of the driver head broke off after roughly 20 balls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Light & Goes Far It took me a few practice sessions to get used to the swing weight being lighter, but now I've picked up about 10-15 yards in distance. The misses go farther as well!
