Callaway Men's Epic Star Driver

Lightweight Designs To Deliver More Speed And Distance

At just 286 total grams in its stock configuration, the new Epic Star driver is the lightest driver that Callaway has ever made, and the result is more swing speed and distance for the players who need help in those areas. But this isn’t just a driver that’s light; it’s also loaded with the same technology that has made the standard Epic one of the top-selling drivers in golf. Most notably, the Epic Star features Jailbreak Technology, which utilizes two titanium bars that connect the crown and sole to maximize energy transfer and create faster ball speeds at impact. Additionally, a titanium Exo-Cage construction and lightweight Triaxial Carbon crown combine to establish a low, deep CG position that enables high launch, low spin, and incredible stability at impact. Also of note, Callaway’s proprietary Speed Step has been positioned on the crown to reduce drag during the swing for more aerodynamic efficiency. The Epic Star also features an 11-gram sliding weight to help players achieve their ideal shot shape, but unlike the standard Epic driver, the Star features a lightweight bonded hosel design, so there is no loft or lie adjustability available. The Epic Star driver is available in lofts of 10.5 and 12 degrees, and it features the lightweight, mid-to-high launching Mitsubishi Grand Bassara GB39 shaft.

Callaway Men's Epic Star Driver features:

  • Standard Length: 45.5 inches
  • Clubhead Volume: 460cc
  • Lie Angle: 58 degrees
  • Stock Shaft: Mitsubishi Grand Bassara GB39 graphite
  • Shaft Flexes: Light, Regular
  • Stock Grip: Golf Pride J200
  • Available Lofts: 10.5 degrees, 12 degrees
  • Swingweight: D0
  • Jailbreak Technology enables maximum energy transfer for increased ball speed
  • Lightweight triaxial carbon crown (9.7 grams) helps create a low, deep CG placement
  • Exo-Cage construction allows weight to be moved to the perimeter for enhanced forgiveness
  • A Speed Step on the crown improves airflow to help produce more clubhead speed
  • Lightweight construction and lighter swingweight help players with average swing speeds create more speed
  • 12-degree model available in right-hand only
  • Includes headcover

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best club I ever used This club easily added 20-30 yards to my drives. Honestly. I like the fixed loft, and it is back to a pure driver which is light and has a wonderful sound as it strikes the ball.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be Patient and you'll be rewarded. I have never owned a Callaway product in my life. I've had 5 Titleist Drivers over the last 15 years. This was a big gamble and after a couple of rounds, I wondered if I may have lost. I can't comment on the transition from the Epic to an Epic Star some guys seem to have struggled with, but I found mine from Titleist took just a few rounds and, then it started happening. Straight drives and 20 extra yards. There is a significant difference in the dynamics that come with this driver so be patient. Without a doubt, this is the most improvement I've ever experienced from a club upgrade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Best driver I have owned to date!! I love how light it is, and how forgiving it is if you do not make a perfect hit. This driver has added 20-30 yards to every drive. So happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best yet As a senior lady golfer, I have always purchased men's TaylorMade drivers, but have been disappointed by their product for the past few years. Callaway has always had stellar irons and I noticed the LPGA players using the Callaway Epic for driving. I purchased it with a senior shaft and 10.5 degrees loft, but I had my eye on the Epic Star....waiting for a sale. It happened! I swapped the Callaway Epic and got the Epic Star with 12 degrees loft. This is by far the best driver that I purchased in the past 10 years. I needed more carry distance, hence the increase in loft. I'll be keeping this driver until it falls apart.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great overall driver. This driver has increased my overall driving distance without any extra effort. A very easy driver to use. Overall a terrific product. I would however like to either see an adjustable hozle or additional loft options. I tend to launch it a bit higher than I like even with the 10.5%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If You Like Hitting it High and Straight After buying and loving my four (4) Epic Star Hybrids, I had an opportunity to demo the Epic Star Driver. WOW! My first drive was about 10 yards longer than my regular Epic Driver, and launched high and straight. The next four or five drives on the range were virtually identical, so I took the club to the course, where I experienced similar results. As with my Epic Star Hybrids, the shaft and weight combination must be a great match and ideally suited for my swing speed which is normally just under 100mph. I now own this club and am very, very happy with it. Given its cost, I would definitely recommend getting fitted, as several of the reviews on this site indicate dissatisfaction with results. One caveat. After getting used to the new lightweight Epic Star Driver, it was difficult to go back to my regular Epic Driver as it seemed very heavy. Also, if you have very large hands, the grip on this club may be a little small for you as it is a special light weight grip specifically designed for this light weight club.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Callaway is a great company but the club I purchased was not for me. I would like to tell you about my experience with the new Epic Gold 10.5 degree regular shaft driver that I just purchased directly from Callaway - DON’T BUY ONE. I really took a gamble in buying the driver due to the very high price tag of $700.00. but was willing to take the plunge due to my past experience with Callaway and the promise of more distance and accuracy with the Epic product. I am a super senior but still have a single digit handicap and regularly score in the 70’s so I think I know a little about the golf swing. I am telling you this because the Epic driver that I purchased is either defective or a bad product for a better than average golfer. The club is definitely lighter and a bit easier to swing but I cannot hit it any farther than my old Callaway. Plus I hit the ball very high compared with my old 10.5 Big Bertha driver. But most disturbing, I could not hit the ball straight. In fact the best I could do, after adjusting the driver’s head weight to the extreme fade position is to lessen the extreme punishing hook. can I order this club with a 45" shaft rather than 45 !/2'? If the answer is yes, would it affect the performance of the club in any way?

Asked by: stewdor
You can choose to take off 1/2 an inch in the custom specs of the order. This would affect the club but in a good way if that is the length you have been fitted for. Other than that there should be no negative affects.
