Q & A

Overview

  • As popular as Callaway golf clubs have been since the company’s inception, none were any more popular than the three models that comprised the original Steelhead fairway wood franchise.
  • While the new ladies Steelhead XR will have the familiar shape and sole design of the original Steelhead, there have been numerous upgrades made in terms of technology.
  • Most notably, Steelhead XR fairways feature a lightweight J-36 carbon crown, and the weight saved in constructing the crown has been repositioned to create an optimal CG position and enhanced perimeter weighting, the latter of which increases forgiveness.
  • Additionally, as has been a staple in Callaway’s recent fairway wood releases, Steelhead XR fairways feature Face Cup Technology, which leads to faster ball speeds from across the clubface for explosive distance.
  • Features Callaway’s popular Hawkeye sole design, which enables effortless launch from the turf and the versatility to play shots from poor lies
  • Also of note, Steelhead XR fairways have a more forward CG location to reduce spin, and they also have a deeper face than Callaway’s other current fairway wood offerings.
  • Steelhead XR ladies fairway woods feature a bonded hosel design and are available in lofts of 15, 18, 20.5, 21, and 24 degrees.
  • They also feature the smooth, mid-launching Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue 45 as a stock shaft.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Steelhead Pro is Impressive, Superior Distance and Control I had a set of 2015 "XR - 4 through GW with UST Recoil 680 Stiff Shafts and upgraded to the 2017 XR Pro and very impressed with the new irons. Smaller offset is better for me! Black/Dark Gray head aids in face alignment regardless lie. What I am most impressed about is the distance control and feel. I was fit for these clubs and ordered the right shaft which for me is the UST Recoil 780 stiff. These are just perfect for my swing. Small upgrade price is worth every penny. Best of the best from Callaway, Not for every golfer but those who want less offset it is perfect! Make sure you are fit for the correct Steelhead! Makes all the difference! Shafts are so important, don't over look this factor in your game! By the way I am 65 and a 4 handicap. And I play most courses at between 6400 and 7000 yards, depending on the course.
